The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 1775 Leila's Identity

Chapter 1775 Leila's Identity

The next morning greeted Dream Garden with a bright sunshine.

After preparing for work, Leila happily went downstairs looking for Charles, only to find that he had

already left.

Leila almost couldn't keep her joyful expression, knowing that she just helped Charles yesterday, but

now he had already forgotten about it. He didn't even wait for her, so they could drive to the company

together. It meant to say that he didn't care about her as much as she expected.

"Leila, don't feel bad," Melissa tried to console her. "He left very early. He was initially going to ask you,

but I told him to let you get some more sleep." Since Melissa had been through the experience, she

knew how Leila felt. She tried her best to explain to her thoughtfully, hoping she would not blame

Charles.

Of course, Charles didn't try to check on Leila. Not wanting Leila to feel bad, Melissa had to make up a

white lie.

"Aunt Melissa, I've got it. Thank you." Feeling embarrassed, Leila's displeased expression immediately

disappeared after she heard Melissa's explanation.

Meanwhile, at the Shining Company, David was on his way to Charles' office. Sweat was dripping from

his forehead. He slightly pulled his polo collar to the side, hoping the gap would allow air to come in

and help him cool down.

David didn't expect Charles to come in so early. He was supposed to have had his breakfast at home,

but his phone started ringing while he was deciding on what he would have. Seeing Charles' name on

the caller ID, he immediately picked it up and confirmed that he was on his way. David ended up

skipping breakfast and went straight to the company.

Standing in front of Charles' office, he took a deep breath before raising his fist. Knock! Knock!

"Come in."

"What can I do for you, President. Lu?" David asked, catching his breath.

"What's wrong?" Charles asked with concern. Seeing David breathing heavily, he knew that David must

have run over to the office.

"President Lu, didn't you say it's an emergency?"

Looking at Charles' doubtful expression, David started to wonder if it was indeed Charles who called

him earlier today. He was pretty sure he spoke with Charles a while ago. So why did it seem that

Charles was surprised to see him rushing in?

Feeling embarrassed since David had misunderstood his phone call, Charles smiled and replied,

"Actually, it's not an emergency. I just wanted to know my immediate schedule."

"What?"

David asked loudly, shocked. He didn't expect that the reason why Charles asked him to come quickly

was just to check on his schedule. He couldn't believe what he heard! He had thought that it was a

matter of life or death.

"Can I?" Charles asked. "Why do you look so shocked?" He couldn't help his reaction, seeing David's

puzzled face.

"Oh, it's nothing, President Lu. Just give me one moment so I can show you."

Browsing on his iPad, David shook his head, trying to get back to his senses.

A few seconds later, he found it and advised, "President Lu, you will have some important meetings

this week. There are a few related to the contract renewal, so you have to attend those. The other

small meetings are not so important, and we can just send a representative."

Guessing that Charles must have something important to do, David only told him about the important

meetings and waited for his reply.

After a few moments, Charles finally spoke, saying, "Put all the meetings off till next week."

"What?" David couldn't help asking. Charles was not the type who would postpone work schedules

because of his private affairs. His current request completely blew David's mind. 'So, what is going on

here?' David thought to himself.

"Postpone all of them. I will be traveling to Malaysia with my mother from tomorrow onward," Charles

briefly explained to David.

Being his confidant, Charles felt that he should tell David the truth.

Hearing Charles' explanation, David immediately understood and nodded his head. He knew that ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

Melissa was suffering from poor health lately, and Charles would want to do what he could to make her

happy.

David was touched by Charles' plan. After all, it was the first time that he saw Charles make his

personnel affairs a top priority.

He understood that Charles would do this because of his filial love for his mother.

"Okay, President Lu, I got it. I will make the necessary arrangements for your trip and your schedule. I'll

send you the tickets to Malaysia and the revised schedule later," feeling enlightened as to what was

going on, David replied respectfully.

Satisfied, Charles nodded at him. He knew that David would never let him down. He didn't need to say

anything further. David bowed his head and took his exit.

Like most days, Leila was waiting outside Charles' office, curious to know what was going on. When

she arrived, she learned that David had been called for by Charles, and she wasn't sure what they

were talking about.

As the door to Charles' office opened, and David quietly walked out, Leila hastily approached him and

smiled. "Good morning, David. You're here so early. What happened in there? Do you need any help?"

"Secretary Zhang, why do you always interfere in President Lu's business? I don't think I need to report

to you whatever it is that President Lu just asked me to do."

David always disliked Leila. In fact, they had never liked each other from the beginning. But they got

along easily since they didn't have to pretend to be polite and friendly.

"You..."

Leila felt dissatisfied, knowing David was mocking her. She was about to say something, but David

interrupted her, saying, "Secretary Zhang, I think you'd better restrain yourself. After all, the CEO hasn't

seen your true colors yet. If you continue to be careless like this, you might ruin everything you've

managed to achieve so far."

David wasn't good with mockery, but he tried his best to match up to Leila. He didn't mind being a bad

man when faced with a woman who had exhausted all her abilities.

Leila snubbed her comment, but David wasn't bothered at all. He went back to his office contently, with

Charles' instructions in mind. He had to book the tickets for the trip.

Seeing David leave, Leila stomped her foot in anger, but there was nothing that she could do. She

knew that David was Charles' confidant, and he would never betray Charles, not for the entire Shining

Company.

David was an eyesore to Leila at work, but she couldn't handle him. She could feel her cheeks burn in

anger.

Leila didn't know what favor Sheryl had given to David, who only acknowledged Sheryl as the wife of

CEO of the Shining Company.

She didn't expect that David, who looked like an honest and hardworking employee, would threaten

her.

Leila couldn't figure out the reason. But she believed that every human being had a weakness. For

sure, David was not an exception. Leila couldn't help but smile just thinking about it. When the time

came that she discovered what David's weakness was, he would fall under her feet.

Meanwhile, at the Dream Garden, Charles stepped out of his car after Leila got out of the passenger

seat.

He had gone home directly, together with Leila, after he finished today's work. Melissa didn't look at all

well yesterday, so he wanted to spend more time with her today.

Leila, being smart enough, seemed to realize that Charles wanted to have time alone with his mother,

so she went to help Nancy with dinner preparations.

"Leila, since you're a guest, I don't think it's appropriate for you to be in the kitchen preparing dinner."

Nancy was busy cooking the soup when Leila came in. Even though she was displeased to see her,

Nancy tried her best to control herself and be polite.

"Nancy, I'm not a guest. I'm now Charles' woman. Why do you think it's inappropriate for me to make

dinner?"

Leila had been treating Nancy as her eyesore at home. With Nancy questioning her identity on

purpose, why would she not retort?

Not expecting Leila's response, Nancy was shocked and lost for words. She continued stirring the

soup, her eyes watching Leila.

As the saying goes, "A person needs a face like a tree needs its bark." Nancy couldn't understand how

Leila could so easily say such words. 'How could she be so shameless? Sheryl and Charles haven't

even divorced yet. And this woman already can't wait to say that she is Charles' woman!' Nancy

thought.
