Chapter 19
Chapter 19
The Flanagan family’s mansion.
Leah Flanagan–Eaden had been waiting for Allison since she got back from the hospital. She couldn’t help but complain when she saw her return so late, “You went out for dinner, why did it take you so long?”
Allison didn’t dare admit that she hadn’t actually gone to meet Lucian, so she mumbled, “It was raining outside, so it took a bit more
time.”
“You’re really ungrateful, and you dare talk back!” Leah was already pi s s ed off, and Allison’s explanation only added fuel to her rage. She grabbed a porcelain cup from the table and chucked it at her.
The white cup flew straight toward Allison’s face, and she had no time to react.
Allison instinctively closed her eyes, but she didn’t feel the expected pain.
All she felt was a shadow flashing in front of her and a pair of long, powerful hands catching the cup skillfully.
The scent that reached her nose was the familiar smell of rainwater mixed with a faint hint of tobacco from the car before.
She opened her eyes, looking a bit perplexed at Lucian standing in front of her.
Not only was she surprised, but so was Leah, “Ah, ah…Lucian.”
Despite Lucian being her future son–in–law, the prestige of the Lindberg family and his cold demeanor made Leah somewhat afraid.
Leah was both angry and shocked. Had Lucian brought Allison back? Why hadn’t this woman said anything earlier?
“Why didn’t you tell me Lucian was here, Penelope…”
“Ma’am!” Allison quickly interrupted, preventing Leah from saying “Penelope. If she had, it would’ve been a real mess.
“Ma’am, when I came back this afternoon, it was pouring rain. I happened to run into Mr. Lindberg. He originally planned to come and visit you and sir. Knowing that I’m a ser vant of the Flanagan family, he kindly offered me a ride.”
Leah’s back was drenched with cold sweat, “So that’s what happened… Why aren’t you making a cup of coffee for Lucian yet?!”
“Yes, right away.” Allison nodded immediately, instructing someone in the kitchen to prepare a cup of tea, and then escaped to her room through the back door.
Once the door was closed, she leaned against it, panting heavily, her heart pounding like a drum, and her mind filled with the scene of Lucian blocking the cup for her.
She had dealt with this kind of situation many times at the Flanagan mansion, and getting yelled at had become a part of her daily life.
But this was the first time someone had stood up for her.
In the living room.
Lucian put the cup he had just caught heavily on the table. Leah couldn’t figure out his mood, but she knew that he was pi s sed off.
Despite his silence, he always exuded an aura of superiority that was intimidating.
After composing herself, Leah tentatively said, “I’m sorry, Lucian, for causing such a scene. Allison came back so late that I just lost my
cool.
“You’re too kind, ma’am, to even care so much about a ser vant.” Lucian’s words were dripping with sarcasm.
Leah’s face turned a bit pale. His words were full of scorn, but she pretended not to notice and said with a smile, “Of course, although Allison is just a ser vant, she grew up in front of my eyes. Besides, Penelope is about the same age as her and has always treated Allison as her sister.”
Upon hearing this, Lucian’s face turned solemn. When he thought of his fiancée and saw his concern for Allison, he felt irritated.
He adjusted his cuffs and suddenly stood up, “I have some business lo attend to; I’ll be taking my leave.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he turned and left, leaving no chance for Leah to stop him.
It wasn’t until his black Bentley disappeared into the rainy night that Leah’s forced smile finally faded.
Margo, standing behind her, took the opportunity to tattle, “Ma’am, Mr. Lindberg originally planned to have dinner with Miss tonight, but Allison didn’t attend as Miss. Now she even got a ride home from Mr. Lindberg; something fishy is going on!”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Leah sneered. “That little sl ut! She’s just like her lowly mother! She claimed to be rejecting Lucian on Penelope’s behalf on the surface, but she’s trying to seduce him behind our backs! What a lowlife!”
She’d better rein herself in, or Leah would make sure Allison paid the price!
