Chapter 185
Chapter 185
“How does this have anything to do with her?!!” Duke was compelled to raise his voice. He’d known Wyatt for years, but Wyatt was still speculating about whether Ivy would attend his birthday party. Duke had not anticipated Ms. Ivy Morgan’s attendance at his party. Ivy turned around after overhearing their conversation. Suddenly, a small figure with a regretful expression ran toward her. “Pretty Lady…” Ivy maintained her position and smiled gently. “Pierce, what is the matter?” Wyatt and Duke became aware of them. Duke knocked over Wyatt’s wheelchair. “What a fortunate occurrence! We were simply looking for you, Ms. Morgan,” Duke smiled. Ivy brushed his words aside and stroked Pierce’s curly hair. His sapphire eyes were filled with disappointment. “I scoured the entire cruise ship and was unable to locate your preferred white chrysanthemums.” There was a brief pause in the conversation. ‘That’s a good thing!’ Duke couldn’t stop himself from laughing. “The entire crew will be fired if you find white chrysanthemums on this ship today!” Pierce regarded him suspiciously and inquired, “Why?” Duke rubbed his nose and pretended not to respond. Wyatt rolled his eyes and then fixed his gaze on Ivy. “Will you push me up onto the deck for a rest, Ivy?” Ivy clenched her fists. ‘Is he so accustomed to bossing me around at this point?!’ She gave a cursory smile. “Sure.” Ivy approached and pushed away his wheelchair. Duke shook his head and considered, ‘Can’t he see how hesitant this young lady is? Is Wyatt attempting to court or torment her?’ Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Pierce was about to pursue Ivy when Duke halted him. “What are your plans? Keep a safe distance from those lovebirds. They cultivate their emotions!” Pierce squinted. “What emotions? Pretty lady is unconcerned about Whiner Mister! She has feelings only for me!” He stood there grunting, his hands on his waist. His clear eyes screamed defiance. ‘Whiner Mister is in no way suitable for Pretty Lady!’ Duke lowered his gaze to the child. “Tsk, tsk... What do you know, youngster? It is necessary to cultivate one’s emotions. Are you blind to the fact that Pretty Lady and Mr. Reed are a natural match? Consider how well-matched they are!” He arched his brows and couldn’t stop himself from sighing. The fabulous pair on the deck could not be more perfect in the moonlight. They shared similar auras and familial origins. They would have been the perfect couple if not for their numerous detours. Pierce snorted coldly and approached Duke with a shove. “Nonsense! They are not compatible! Pretty lady prefers younger men over older men like Whiner Mister! When I’m older, I’m going to marry her!” Duke’s jaw slammed shut in surprise. ‘Huh… This child is truly fascinating!’ He laughed heartily. “Oh, so you’re a fan of Pretty Lady? What a shame.” He shook his head in bemusement. Pierce was even angrier. “What a shame?!!” Duke rolled his eyes and smiled devilishly. He purposefully teased the small child. “It’s a shame that Pretty Lady comes from such a strong family. Even if she does not marry Mr. Reed, she will find other suitable marriage alliance partners. In any case, unless you’re filthy rich, it’ll never be your turn.” Pierce’s eyes grew dim for a brief moment before brightening again. “I have funds! Marco Seely is my father! He’s got a lot of money, and all of it is mine!” “Then convince your father to marry her! If not, how long will you have to wait to inherit his estate?” Pierce crumbled.
‘Never! I owe it to Pretty Lady to marry her!’ Pierce gritted his teeth and made his decision after some consideration. He clenched his small fists and stormed over to his father. Marco and Leo were merrily conversing. Leo’s eyes grew soft when he saw Pierce. ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I had a grandson!’ Pierce approached Marco and hugged him. He cast a petulant glance at his father. “Daddy…” Marco shot the boy a warning glance. “You are not permitted to throw a tantrum on such a special day as today.” Pierce glowed. He looked Leo in the eyes with his clear innocent eyes and appeared to be quite adorable. “I am aware. Today is Pretty Lady’s daddy’s birthday! Uncle Leo, have a happy birthday!” Leo was ecstatic. His heart melted at the prospect of rewarding this child, and he rummaged through his pockets for his wallet. Pierce then looked at Marco and petulantly shook his father’s arm. “I want to inherit your estate, Daddy!” In a split second, the temperature of the airdropped below freezing. Leo Morgan, who was rummaging through his pockets in search of his wallet, instantly went silent. He cast a glance at Marco Seely’s glum and sunken face. Marco’s eyes were closed as he battled a penetrating chill. He twitched his eyelids. His ordinarily stoic face began to sag. “Daddy, I’d like to inherit your estate immediately...” Pierce twisted his body and whined petulantly. Marco could not bear to smack this child because he was so adorable. ‘This is my child. Be patient!’ Marco considered. He looked at Pierce, took a deep breath, and spoke softly. “As soon as possible?” Marco inquired quietly. Pierce solemnly nodded, “I can be with my pretty lady only after I inherit your estate!” As such, Pierce reasoned, the sooner, the better! He didn’t even want his father for the sake of his
pretty lady. Marco’s gloomy eyes were fixed on the tender little face of his son. He made a concerted effort to maintain his composure and poise. “Then I will make every effort to grant your wish promptly.” Marco sarcastically gritted his teeth. Pierce beamed and joyfully inquired, “When?” A second... Two seconds... Marco closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, but he could no longer take it. His eyes drew dangerously close. He effortlessly picked his son up by the back of his collar. Thus, he could simply toss him out like a ball. Leo, who stood beside him, babbled, “Children’s words know no bounds.” Marco gave a faint smile as he recalled his expression. He apologized with a nod and said, “Chairman Morgan, my apologies. I suddenly realized that I needed to attend to some urgent business at the company. I’m going to make amends at your door first thing tomorrow.” Marco then carried Pierce and departed with his head held high. “Ahh! I want to kiss my pretty lady before I leave, Daddy!” Ivy was dumbfounded on the deck as she saw Marco carrying Pierce away and wanted to know what was happening. Wyatt grabbed her wrist before she could take two steps out. “Do not leave... Consider what I said, all right?” His voice was hushed, cautious, and humble. Wyatt was well aware that Leo Morgan would not allow his youngest daughter to remain unmarried indefinitely and would consider a marriage alliance. As a result, he advised Ivy to consider him first. After all, he possessed all of the prerequisites and advantages. Apart from him, who else was deserving? Wyatt felt uneasy when he saw Ivy and Marco conversing happily earlier, despite knowing Marco was not an option. As a result, he dug deeply into this subject. Ivy lowered her eyes to meet his gaze. She burst out laughing. “Mr. Reed, all that matters in a
marriage alliance is compatibility. Even so, you will be out of the running. I am not stupid enough to put up with someone twice.” Ivy spoke slowly, a faint smile on her face. “Besides, now that I’ve seen the world, my standards have risen considerably, and I’ve lost interest in the people I used to admire.” She purposefully emphasized the phrase “USED TO.” Wyatt felt as if his heart had been viciously stabbed. Ivy pushed his wheelchair with a faint smile. “Do not be concerned. I’ll look after you until you’re well, and I’ll never forget how you saved my life, but feelings cannot be forced, right?” Wyatt Reed, arrogant and reserved, felt defeated at this point. He never made any headway with her, regardless of how hard he tried. He was rendered speechless by bitterness, heartache, and rage. What could he possibly do? Throw a temper tantrum? He had no legal authority to do so. Wyatt clenched his wheelchair’s handlebars. His forehead veins dilated, and the corners of his eyes were flushed.
