Chapter 322 She Is My Life
Chapter 322 She Is My Life
“Is Hayden’s family here?”
The nurse’s voice was echoing in the hallway. For the first time in his life, Joseph felt like that his feet
were tied down by rocks and he can’t even move.
He came to himself in a while, “Here. I’m.”
Pushing the people away, Joseph said in a trembling voice, “I’m.”
Holding the Operation Consent Form, the nurse looked at Joseph blankly as she had been seeing this
kind of scene every day.
“The patient’s left chest cavity was punctured by a steel bar and it was near the heart, so the risk of
surgery is pretty high. The doctor is performing an emergency operation, but you have to sign here
first.”
It seemed like there was a bomb had blown off right in Joseph’s head and he can’t possibly picture
what it was like to have a steel bar in one’s chest. He just froze.
“Sir... sir, are you okay?”
Joseph signed his name mechanically and felt that everything around him had all disappeared. He
started at the operation room door the whole time.
Ten minutes after the nurse entered the operation room, there was noises coming from the hallway.
Dante, Freddie and Cleveland were all here.
“How is my sister?” Freddie asked frantically.
Biting his lips tightly, Joseph’s eyebrows were literally shaking. He stood there like a statue and
repeated the nurse’s words in a while.
“What happened?” Freddie suddenly grasped Joseph’s collar and yelled with his eyes all red.
“Joseph, is this the way you are looking after my sister?”
“Maybe it’s not that bad.” Holding Freddie, Cleveland looked at the operation hours and said worryingly,
“We haven’t known the result yet. The doctor is performing the operation now, so don’t panic.”
But Freddie seemed like he didn’t hear Cleveland’s words and clutched at Joseph’s collar tightly,
“Joseph, remember how did you promise me back then? She is my sister!”
Joseph slowly looked up and met Freddie’s eyes. His eyes were all red and were seeming to be
holding back pains. He didn’t even want to speak if Freddie was not acting up.
“For you, she is your sister. But for me, she is my life. “
All people paused.
Pulling back Freddie’s hands, Cleveland consoled, “Hayden is having the operation now. Let’s just wait
and see the result.”
The light in the operation room was turned off in about half of an hour and the doctor in charge stepped
out of the room first. Looking at all the people, he took off the mask and made a deep bow, “I’m sorry,
we’ve done our best.”
Freddie can barely stand straight and would have fallen to the ground if it was not for Cleveland.
The operation bed was wheeled out behind the doctor in charge. Pinching the corner of the white
sheet, Freddie just can’t bring himself to lift it up. Then he just started crying uncontrollably.
Dante’s eyes also got red and even the eyes of once indifferent Cleveland were trembling.
Joseph just stood there mechanically and was like an overwhelmed child. Unlike Freddie, he can’t even
bring himself to the operation bed and refused to believe who was under that white blanket.
He regretted that he had that quarrel with her this morning and didn’t express his deep love for her
before it was too late.
“How come that you are all here?”
Looking at the saddened five men in the hospital, Anna asked in bewilderment while holding two take-
away packages in the hall way.
“What happened?”
Dante was the one who was standing the nearest to her. He frowned and said in a hoarse voice, “Stop
asking. She didn’t make it.”
Anna paused and landed her eyes on the operation bed which was covered by a white cloth. Drooping
her eyes, she then let out a sigh, “Me and Hayden had tried our best to send her to the hospital as
soon as possible.”
Dante nodded and suddenly realized there was something wrong. He then stared at Anna and said,
“What did you say?”
“What?” Anna paused and said, “Me and Hayden had tried our best...”
While Dante was questioning Anna, Joseph had sprinted to the operation bed and uncovered the white
cloth. It was a middle-aged chubby woman that was lying on that bed and her face was ghastly pale.
Freddie stepped back in fear and fell over to Cleveland’s arm.
“This is not my sister.”
Joseph’s hand which clutched at the white cloth was trembling, but after regaining his calmness, he
covered the body and walked to Anna pretending to be calm. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Where is Hayden?”
“I was about to find her myself. I just bought the dinner. We haven’t eaten yet.” Scratching her head,
Anna looked around.
“The hospital is short of hands now and Hayden used to be a medical student, so she volunteered and
was probably helping out now.”
Joseph suddenly fled past her and just disappeared before Anna can even finish her sentence.
Glancing at Anna, Dante asked the nurse to send the patient who passed away to the morgue and took
a bow in front of the bed to apologize for alarming her.
Anna was still confused and asked them, “What happened?”
Magnus was the one who was present all the way, so he was the only person who can explain what
happened.
Seeing that all people were looking at him, Magnus thought for a while and hesitated, “Well, the nurse
who let us sign the Operation Consent Form said the patient was Hayden Downey, so Mr. Beckham
thought that...”
“Right...” Anna finally figured out what happened, “Me and Hayden sent her here. Hayden then asked
the nurse to call her name if she needed any family members. But the nurse must be busy and got
mistaken.”
“So...” Magnus frowned, “What should we do now?”
“Well, just go home and do whatever you want to do.” Anna shrugged. “Our car just hit the guardrail
and had been towed away for repair, so there is nothing to worry about here.”
Hearing her words, all people were relieved.
Freddie finally figured out everything and was relieved. Leaning against Cleveland, he muttered,
“Joseph is such a psycho.”
Cleveland rubbed his hair and asked, “Do you want to see your sister now?”
“No.” Freddie shook his head. “It’s too late now. Let’s just go home now. I have shows to do tomorrow.”
After Freddie and Cleveland left, Magnus also hurried off. Standing at the hallway with the dinner, Anna
was feeling a bit awkward.
“Let’s go. Joseph will prepare Hayden’s dinner.” Dante glanced at her. “I have a sample design to show
you in the design room. Are you interested?”
“Of course!” Anna’s eyes suddenly brightened up.
Looking at the take-away package that she was carrying, Dante said, “Well, lucky me. I didn’t have
dinner yet.”
Joseph finally saw Hayden at the ambulance parking spot after searching the whole hospital. She was
helping doctors and nurses to get patients off the car. Her pink coat was covered with blood stains, but
she seemed to be composed among this chaos.
His heart finally stopped beating wildly.
“You don’t have to exert all your strength now. There are more people coming, so you should save
some energy.”
Wiping away sweats on the ambulance, a male doctor smiled at Hayden.
“Are you one of the new interns? How come that I have never seen you before?”
