Chapter 23: Tredan Gets Angry
“I need to go to Beijing to follow up on the progress of a project, and I need to be accompanied by a senior person who is very familiar with the company’s capital flow. What do you think?” Eddison deliberately said that he needed to go to Beijing on business, but he didn’t necessarily need a senior executive to go with him, he just needed one to sort out the data and check the funds for him, and Eddison was happy that he could spend a few days alone with her and maybe come back holding hands.
“General Manager, but… but my brother is still in hospital and I’m a bit uneasy about it!” Octavia Gills was not only relieved about Gar Gills, she was also afraid that when she returned from her trip there would really be no place at all for her in Tredan’s house, and she didn’t want it to end like that. She was waiting for him to tell her to end that contract so that she would have the courage to turn and leave.
“That’s okay! You don’t have to reply to me in a hurry, because this isn’t a business trip for tomorrow either, it’s in a few days! Tell you what, think about it for a couple of days before you give me an answer, the company surely needs your help on this!”
Eddison put it all out there, what else could Octavia Gills say?
Octavia Gills tapped on her phone screen with hesitation as she tried to ask Tredan if he could join her for dinner tonight. But would he pay any attention to her? Would he be having dinner with Lilian Drye? She was now a little bitter about her own pussyfooting around. In the end, she decided to take the plunge and call Tredan’s mobile.
“Hello, is something wrong?” Tredan’s lazy, tired voice came from there.
“Oh, that… that, I wanted to ask if you were free tonight so we could have dinner together!” Octavia Gills still mustered up the courage to speak her mind.
“We didn’t get to celebrate your birthday last night, I’m making up for your meal today, to kind of show my appreciation for all the trouble you’ve taken to help with my brother’s affairs. I haven’t had the chance to officially thank you properly yet!”
“Some other time perhaps. I made plans with Lilian to have dinner tonight and to go see that new Paul Blight movie on the way, you don’t have to wait for me tonight, you can go to bed early!” Tredan rubbed his brow, his eyes a little dry and slightly sore from all the paperwork he had been handling, leaned back in his swivel chair and hung up after declining Octavia Gills’ request, looking thoughtfully out the clear glass window and deep in thought.
With Lilian Drye back, should he ask her to move out from the old Group Davi house? But for some reason, he didn’t seem to want her to leave. The house, the room, was warmth with her in it, and he loved the faint smell of her, the way he felt so secure in her arms every night.
No, he had Lilian, whose place in his heart could not be replaced by anyone else. It was Lilian he loved, and what he did for Octavia was only a compensation for her. It was her payment for being his stand-in lover.
Having found a reason that would convince him, Tredan didn’t allow himself to delve any deeper in to it, and got up to pick up Lilian Drye for dinner!
In the evening, Octavia Gills sat alone in the hall with the television on, her eyes on the screen but oblivious to what was on it, always glancing absently at the watch in her hand, the time is moving extraordinarily slowly, the empty room looking magnificent and forlorn, perhaps she should go out for a break, accompanying her boss on a business trip was an inescapable duty! Octavia Gills got up and headed for Tredan’s private wine cellar as if she was in a tizzy, saying that even if she was able to get her sorrows out of the way, she could still get a good night’s sleep. So that she wouldn’t be alone in the silence of the night, waiting for Tredan.
She looked at the wide range of wines and wondered which one she should take. Suddenly she remembered the game of finger pointing that she used to play when she was a child, and on a whim Octavia Gills used her fingers to point out the various wines as she had done when she was a child.
“Point the finger soldier, point the finger thief, point to whoever is a great soldier, point to whoever is a great thief, point to the one that is my Octavia’s wine for the night!” One-word points to a bottle, and the bottle that the last word points to is held up by Octavia Gills.
“That’s you!” Octavia Gills picks up the bottle, opens it and starts drinking straight from the bottle! Only, Octavia Gills didn’t know that every move she made in this cellar and every word she said was recorded by the cameras in the winery.
Twelve o’clock in the morning.
When Tredan returned, he called out to Octavia Gills, and hearing no answer, he took off his coat and searched the house. The TV was on in the hall and Octavia Gills was nowhere to be found. Octavia Gills was lying drunk on the floor next to a broken bottle of wine. My God, is this woman crazy? Tredan was furious that this woman had come in the middle of the night to steal his precious collection of wine, picking out his favorite bottle. “Octavia Gills, get up, do you know what you’re doing?” Tredan pulled Octavia Gills, who reeked of alcohol, to the bench in the hall.
“Ahaha, Tredan, you’re back? Come and drink with me, Tredan, you know I missed you! You’re much more handsome and manly now than you were twenty years ago, but you’re just not as cute as you used to be!” Octavia Gills began to babble, and Tredan’s face darkened as she pinched his cheek.
“Octavia, I’m telling you, the next time you drink I’ll strangle you.” What the hell! Really! No one else could call him that except Lilian Drye who had dared to call him that when he was a kid. And this little ninny calls herself sis in front of him? How dare you! And using cute to describe seven-foot man as him. Is she getting ahead of herself? When she wakes up, she will have to be punished properly. Let’s see if she dares to drink recklessly in the future.
Tredan took Octavia Gills back to her bedroom, put her in bed, tucked her in gently, and carefully smoothed the hair out of her eyes. He then fell asleep with her.
As Group Davi had a very important meeting of shareholders and directors today, Tredan left early before Octavia Gills had even woken up. He had to go to the office to prepare all the proposals and statements to ensure that the meeting went off without a hitch.
Octavia Gills woke up, and opened her eyes to find herself alone in her room. She doesn’t remember Tredan coming back last night to see her drunk and carrying her to her room to sleep. She thought Tredan had stayed up all night and wondered if he had fallen asleep with Lilian Drye in his arms last night. He must have been so happy then, after all, it’s such a blessing to fall asleep with the one you love in your arms. I should be happy for him. He has his happiness, I should be happy for him, why? Why am I so sad, my heart hurts so much I can’t breathe! It seems that she herself is too unaware of what she should be doing. Perhaps Ms. Lilian’s sudden return had caught her a bit off guard, so she couldn’t control her emotions very well. It seemed that she needed to calm her heart for a few days before she could do so. Perhaps when she returned from her business trip, her heart would not be as painful as it was now. And just accept that she was only supposed to be his lover in the absence of Lilian Drye!
Octavia Gills picked up her mobile phone and called Eddison, telling him that she had adjusted her schedule and ask if Eddison wanted to leave tonight. The manager was ready to make the arrangements.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Octavia, are you all set?” Eddison asked an attentive Octavia Gills who was gawking.
“Oh, I’m all set! Leaving now?” Octavia Gills had been debating whether to tell Tredan that she was away on business for a few days. It seemed a bit pretentious to say so, but if not, it would seem like she hadn’t given him an account of where she was off to.
Looking at Octavia Gills, who was a little distracted, a concerned Eddison went up to her and felt her forehead, asking carefully, “What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable? Or is there something you’re not sure about?”
Faced with Eddison’s sudden approach and looking at the staff of colleagues outside the glass doors, Octavia Gills, somewhat embarrassed and less than comfortable, said in a panic, “No… no?? thank you for your concern General Manager, I’m all set, the flight is at 6pm and it’s It’s 4:30, we’re leaving, it’s the peak hours, and the traffic would be heavy, we’d better get there early!”
“We’ll go over to the airport and get something to eat before getting on the plane, and when we arrive tonight, I’ll take you out to try some of the famous local food, I promise you’ll like it!” Eddison didn’t shy away from the staff at work and helped Octavia Gills out of the office, pushing her suitcase and dragging Octavia Gills by the hand.
“General Manager, I’ll do it myself! It would be beneath you to let you push it for me!” Octavia Gills broke away from Eddison’s tight grip and naturally lifted her hand to grab her travel case. President Davi was impervious to her offer, and rejected it for his benefit. “You’re a woman, so of course I’m the man who has to do this kind of work, so just follow along!”
Octavia Gills sighed, and though about how many teenage girls have fallen under his charm seeing that this General Manager is so handsome and funny.
Before getting on the plane, Octavia Gills sent a Facebook message to Tredan: I’ll be away for two or three days and I have some of your favorite food in the fridge! When you get hungry in the evening, just open the fridge and heat it up the food.
When Tredan saw this Facebook post he couldn’t help but frown, even he didn’t know why he suddenly felt so angry! How dare she go away on a business trip without his approval? How dare she go on a business trip without his permission? It seems that he had been too good to her that she has forgotten what he has done for her. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and he hammered his fisted hands on the table, scaring the assistant who was standing across the table and reporting to him about tomorrow’s trip.
“Gu … President Davi, is there something wrong with the itinerary? I’ll take care of the changes right away!” This act of Tredan made his assistant break out of into a cold sweat. If he remembers right, President Davi has not lost his temper for a long time, and was thinking about which good Bodhisattva he could convert to. Tredan’s staff around him has been happy for a long time, and did not expect things could turn bad again. Oooh… I beg God to help and have mercy on the working men and women. The assistant cried out in his heart to the gods of the four seas for help.
“No, I know all about it, you go down!”
The assistant was so relieved to hear that the black-faced President Davi had given the go-ahead that he hurriedly responded “Yes” to Tredan and walked out of Tredan’s office in a huff, not forgetting to clap his hands together to thank the gods who had just rushed to his rescue! In the recent years, only the gods and goddesses have been able to keep this black-faced president at bay.
