Chapter 1227

Chapter 1227

Agent A came with news about Raines, and he had been locked up in the basement of an old

warehouse in Goldendell. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Leopold sprang into action, coordinating with the local cops to track him down.

Raines looked rough, probably from being cooped up for too long, and his mind seemed foggy.

But he was alone in that basement, and there was no sign of his mother, Elfreda.

Leopold's guys got Raines to the local hospital, and when they flew him back home, it was on New

Year's Eve.

Lisbeth, tears streaming down her face, rushed over and wrapped him in a hug, "Raines, you're finally

back. Seeing you're okay, that's all I needed."

But Raines just stood there, dazed, not moving an inch, his eyes looking at her as if she were a

stranger, "Who are you?"

Lisbeth felt a jolt, "You don't remember me?"

Raines clutched his head, "I can't remember anything."

Aurelia glanced at Leopold, asking in confusion, "What's wrong with him?"

"He's not in great shape," Leopold said, "Let's let him rest in his room for now."

A servant helped Raines back to his room.

Lisbeth's heart was in knots. She had thought Raines would be angry with her, resent her, but he had

actually forgotten her.

Aurelia patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her, "Don't panic. Let's give Raines some time to rest up

before we jump to conclusions."

"I'll go check on him," Lisbeth said, heading upstairs.

Aurelia pulled Leopold aside, "Are you sure the man who came back is really Raines?"

"Yeah," Leopold nodded, "All signs point to yes."

"Did they drug him, causing the memory loss?" Aurelia asked.

"We can't be sure yet. He'll need further examination," Leopold replied.

Aurelia sighed, Raines had a history of memory issues, and she feared they had worsened. "And

Elfreda? Why didn't you find her?"

Leopold's voice was heavy, "We only found Raines at the site. They might have isolated Elfreda."

"We need Raines' memory back. Then, maybe we can figure out what went down these past days,"

Aurelia said with hope.

Leopold gave a nod.

Aurelia grabbed an orange, peeled it, and popped a slice into her mouth, "This rescue feels too easy. I

expected more of a fight, a struggle. Did they have guards?"

Leopold had considered this, but getting Raines out was the priority, "Just a couple of guards. We dealt

with them in a flash."

"No traps set by them?" Aurelia's concern was palpable.

"We'll deal with whatever comes our way, as long as we're sure this is the real Raines," Leopold

reassured her, his arm around her shoulder.

"But Elfreda's still missing. What if they use her to pressure Raines into something sinister?"

Leopold shared her concerns, "I'll have people continue the search for Elfreda."

Upstairs, Lisbeth entered Raines' room.

He was lying on the bed, looking up at her with those unfamiliar eyes, "Who are you?"

"I'm your wife," Lisbeth said softly.

Raines seemed taken aback, "Then how come I don't remember you at all?"

Lisbeth's heart ached, "You might have been hurt, lost your memory. Do you remember anyone else?"

Raines nodded. He remembered Elfreda, Jessica, and his brothers in the Stirling family.

"You've lost weight, and you must've gone through so much," Lisbeth said tenderly.

Raines touched his forehead, "Where is my mom?"

"Leopold hasn't found Elfreda yet," Lisbeth said.

Worry creased Raines' face, "Could she be in danger?"

"Leopold will find her," Lisbeth assured him, her voice full of hope.
