Chapter 315
"Okay, I'll help you. I'll make sure Annie gets the care she needs. However, Mr. Adams, you should find out what she did. The person after her isn't just anybody-it's Charles!"
Cody shot to his feet, staring at Sean in shock.
He had hoped to leverage Sean's influence and maybe even get Charles to step in and smooth things over. After all, he knew Liliana's true identity, a secret he had kept since the day he saved her life.
Years had passed, and even though Liliana was nowhere to be found, the Hoffmans, especially Charles, owed him a big favor. Cody figured that mentioning the past would surely get Charles to lend a hand. However, what he did not see coming was that Annie had managed to upset Charles himself.
Sean narrowed his eyes, a spark of cunning flickering in them.
He knew exactly what Cody was up to. A favor was a favor, and it had to be repaid. However, Sean was not like Charles. He did not like being under someone's thumb, and Cody had clearly crossed a line with him.
Sean had been hiding his feelings for someone for years, someone he could not even bring himself to talk about.
Sean's hands were ghostly white from handling bleach, giving him a chilling look. Standing up, he calmly adjusted the third button on his shirt with his long fingers.
"Mr. Adams, you might want to ask your sister why she's on Charles' bad side. He's not one to lose his temper without good reason. And the fallout... well, you've probably heard the stories," Sean said calmly.
Cody's face went white as he clenched his fists and swallowed hard. "Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Smith." He did not know what Annie did to tick off Charles, but he sure knew about Charles's reputation.
Four years ago, there was a rumor

about someone who had upset a woman close to Charles. Nobody knew exactly who she was to Charles, but he always treated her with great kindness. To make things right for her, he took down the young heir of the Cooper Group. In just one night, Charles brought the whole company down.
People started saying that woman was Charles's favorite, his most cherished person. Charles never bothered to set the record straight. From that point on, it was clear to everyone that they should not cross Charles.

Cody left Sean's office feeling out of sorts and headed to Annie's hospital room.
Sean had kept his promise. The doctors looking after Annie were top-notch experts who had come from overseas. Annie was a girl who cared a lot about her looks, so being hurt so badly was really hard on her.

Cody paused at the door, his heart racing. Annie was still upset. He could feel her anger radiating from under the many layers of bandages. "I want all of you out, now!"
Annie tried to sit up, but the nurses and doctors held her down. "Please, miss, try to stay calm!"
"How can I stay calm? Let go of me! Get out!"
"Is that enough?" Cody pushed the door open hard and looked straight into Annie's eyes, his face impassive and serious.
Annie's face was all bandaged up, with only a little space left for her to look around. She had never seen Cody so angry before, and it scared her. "Brother."
