The Cherished Wife

Chapter 331

Samuel did not oppose Charles being with Noelle, but their marriage had been a bit hasty. In this matter, Charles was at fault.

Knowing that he had not introduced Noelle to his parents before getting married and that neither side of the family was informed, made the situation more delicate.

Samuel was a traditional man who valued certain formalities, especially when it came to Noelle.

"Grandpa, you can just call me Charlie," Charles said as he poured Samuel a cup of lemon tea. His movements exuded the elegance of a nobleman, setting him apart from ordinary people.

Charles did not rush to explain but calmly handed the cup to Samuel before speaking slowly. "Actually, I've known Nelly for quite some time. You may not know, but Grandpa Jones was my teacher. I graduated from Vista University, and I met Nelly when she was little."Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Samuel was momentarily taken aback but quickly resumed examining the cup of lemon tea in his hands. "So, you're saying your feelings for Nelly didn't develop just recently?"

Charles' eyes glinted. "You could say that. However, Nelly didn't really know me."

Samuel nodded. He had already guessed as much. Given how outstanding Charles was, it was unlikely Noelle would have noticed him if she had known him well. Instead, she had fallen for someone like Xavier, who was insincere and deceitful.

Samuel was pleasantly surprised by Charles' honesty.

"I must be frank with you, Grandpa. In the matter of marrying Nelly, my methods weren't entirely honorable. But since love her, I will protect her. Nelly marrying me was partly due to circumstances. I'm sure you're aware of what happened to Nelly recently."

Charles was smart. Knowing Samuel's dissatisfaction, he would not reveal all his cards. He liked taking calculated risks and finding balance on a tightrope. He spoke just enough without over-explaining.

Samuel was insightful and understood without needing things spelled out explicitly. He tightened his grip on his cane. "You must be aware of the Shaw family's situation."

Charles nodded. "Nelly is

kind-hearted and may not care

about certain things. But since she's part of the Shaw family, some fates are unavoidable. I believe you gave her the shares to protect her and to preserve the family's last

foundation."

Samuel looked at Charles intently. "You're good. Noelle didn't misjudge you."

Charles continued, "But have you considered that some things are not suitable for Nelly to handle?"

Samuel sighed deeply. "I know. I didn't want to involve Noelle in the family's affairs. She never cared for them and only valued familial bonds. But unfortunately, family affection isn't always something you can attain through effort.

"I'm getting old, and my time is running out. I often worry about what will happen to Noelle after I'm gone. Even if she doesn't want to accept these responsibilities, she has to."

"Some things are never suitable for her to handle," Charles said firmly, placing his cup down and meeting Samuel's sharp gaze. "So, I promise you, anything she's not fit to do, I will do for her."

Charles was not one to make promises lightly, but he did not mind making an exception for those important to Noelle.
