The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 123

Chapter 123

The next morning, when Cordelia was heading to work, she found Adrian waiting for her at the office

entrance, demanding his bag back. So she handed him the knockoff one.

"Cordelia, are you pulling my leg? I gave you the real deal and you're giving me a copy?" Adrian asked Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

angrily.

"A copy? That’s what you gave me. How should I know? Do you have evidence to prove what you gave

me?" Cordelia played dumb.

"Alright, Cordelia, I won't let you off easily." Adrian stormed off, leaving the bag behind.

Cordelia proceeded to the office.

Jordan felt utterly embarrassed this time. He was confident that nabbing Cordelia was in the bag with

Manda's unwavering belief. But things went south, not only did he fail to catch Cordelia, but he also lost

Manda, his right-hand woman. Given yesterday's circumstances, he had no choice but to cut his

losses.

He shot Cordelia a message, [Cordelia, Mr. Evans called. He said you’re starting at the Audit

Department next Monday.]

Cordelia was stunned when she saw the message. [Really?]

[Really. Congrats, your wish is about to come true. You’ve always wanted to work in Audit, haven’t

you?]

[Thanks, Mr. Jordan.’

Cordelia had experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, from disbelief to complicated feelings.

She sent Ronan a message, [Thanks, dear,] followed by a bunch of kisses and heart emojis.

After work, Cordelia had a beaming smile. Once she got on the car, she gave Ronan a kiss on the

cheek.

"How did you think of transferring me to the Audit Department?" Cordelia asked with a smile. She had

almost given up hope of transferring to the Audit Department this year.

"In the finance department, your reputation is shot. Can't be falling flat on your face in the same place

all the time, better try somewhere new.” Ronan said nonchalantly.

"You're always making fun of me." Cordelia complained, then looked out the window.

After a while, Cordelia suddenly remembered, "Are there any openings in the Audit Department?"

Last time Ronan mentioned it, he had no say in Audit Department's hiring.

"There’s just the one." Ronan replied.

In fact, it was a position he had the HR Director hold previously.

Cordelia was relieved. Tomorrow was Friday, she could hand over her work at the finance department,

and start at the Audit Department next week.

"Work well in the Audit Department. It's a department I plan to focus on developing." Ronan said

seriously.

"Yeah, I won't let you down." Cordelia thumped her chest.

On Friday, after handing over her work, Cordelia bid farewell to the finance department. She knew that

in a big company like this, people could be gossipy, especially in the finance department where rumors

flew around. Cordelia disliked talking behind people's backs, and she hated being the center of gossip.

She preferred a professional working environment.

On Saturday, after visiting her mother, Cordelia went back to her dorm and picked up the real Chanel

bag. It was so expensive that she had packed it in a shopping bag.

Brooklyn could hardly bear it, "Why won’t you keep it? It was a gift from your brother. What gives?"

"He didn’t take a dime from me, and yet I deceived him. This is fraud, get it? I have to return it to

Manda right away. What if she sues me? Manda is really pissed right now. I have to deal with this

immediately." Cordelia said.

Brooklyn seemed a bit downcast.

The reason why Cordelia asked Jamie to return the bag to Manda was because she thought Manda

had a thing for Jamie. Now she suddenly understood why Manda decided to work at Lumos

Enterprises, and why Manda conspired with Adrian against her.

Cordelia thought that Jamie was a big cheese in Millstone, so an ordinary dinner wouldn't do, and she

didn’t want to make Ronan lose dignity either. So she picked Penny's, a fancy local restaurant that was

pretty well-known. She didn't book a private room, but chose a table in the main dining area.

Cordelia arrived early and put the bag on the table. Jamie hadn't arrived yet, and Cordelia checked her

watch.

Coincidentally, Ronan and Wyatt were dining in a private room upstairs, where Ronan had invited

Wyatt, the German, to taste some authentic local cuisine.

Due to the one-way transparent glass windows, you could see outside from the inside, but you couldn't

see inside from the outside. Wyatt unintentionally turned his head and caught sight of Cordelia.

"Mr. Evans, I think I see my new employee." Wyatt gestured.

"What?" Ronan followed Wyatt's gaze and saw Cordelia sitting downstairs with a canvas bag next to

her. This morning, she said she was going to visit her mom.

"She told me she was going out to have dinner with a classmate." Ronan tried to sound calm.

"A male or female classmate?" Wyatt asked again.

"You’ll know once they arrive, won't you?" Ronan replied with a light laugh.

Wyatt shrugged it off with a smile and lifted his coffee. Ronan also turned his gaze away from

downstairs.

Soon Jamie arrived, holding a box of chocolates. "This is for you. I bought it elsewhere." Jamie pushed

the chocolates toward Cordelia.

"Your wife's date is here." Wyatt informed Ronan, "Do you know him?"

Ronan shot a sidelong glance, a small smile playing on his face. "Jamie, he's a professional accounting

coach. Cordelia passed her business law, now treating the teacher to dinner. She mentioned it this

morning, but I didn't pay much attention."

"Is that so?" Wyatt continued, "Mr. Evans, your wife once told me she has no plans of having kids in the

next five years."

"Does that have anything to do with our topic today?" Ronan chuckled again.

Only Ronan knew how forced his smile was. He was getting pretty fed up inside, but he had to play it

cool in front of Wyatt.
