The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 131

Chapter 131

Cordelia turned around and saw Brenda coming out from another private room.

Ronan recognized Brenda. She was the one who interviewed Cordelia at the coffee shop last time and

was an employee of Jamie. He was a bit irritated and told Cordelia, "I'll wait for you in the car."

Brenda didn't give a hoot about Ronan's attitude and started chatting with Cordelia. Although Cordelia

had only met Brenda once, she really liked her because of her candid smile and pure nature.

"How come you're here? Aren't you supposed to be at work?" Cordelia asked Brenda.

"Don't even get me started. I quit." Brenda said, a bit pissed off. "You know Manda, right? She used to

work at Lumos Enterprises."

"I know."

"Now she's Jamie's assistant, throwing her weight around all day. Jamie listens to whatever she says.

He even ignores the opinions of us old employees. Quite a few accountants including me have quit. I

can't stand it anymore. I'm really confused. Jamie wasn't like this before." Brenda crossed her arms as

she spoke.

Cordelia was also lost in thoughts. Could it be because of her? Manda had a hold over Cordelia. Jamie

was afraid that Manda would expose Cordelia, so he gave in everywhere. So in a way, Brenda's

unemployment was partly Cordelia’s fault.

"What are your plans? Have you started job hunting?" Cordelia asked Brenda.

"Not yet. I plan to travel first and then apply for a job when I get back. At my age, and just being an

accountant, it's pretty tough to land a good job," Brenda gave a bitter smile. "It sucks. I mean, I'm one

of the top ten accountants at Millstone, and my job was taken by a greenhorn."

Cordelia chuckled at Brenda’s candidness, "I'll keep an eye out for jobs for you."

"Just take care of yourself first." With that, Brenda left.

After Cordelia got in the car, Ronan asked her, "What were you two chatting about?"

"Well, nothing much. She quit her job and hasn’t found a new one yet."

"Why did she quit?"

Cordelia didn't mention the matter with Jamie, fearing that Ronan would be bothered by it again.

Instead, she said, "The pressure was too much."

They both headed back to their respective offices.

Deanna was waiting in Ronan's office, wiping her tears with a tissue. "What's the matter?" Ronan took

off his coat and hung it up.

"Ronan, why would someone as great as you go for a contract marriage? Because of your

grandfather? You didn't have to. Why choose an employee? Actually, I could have been an option for a

contract marriage." Deanna was doing her best to belittle Ronan and Cordelia's marriage, making it

seem insignificant.

"You're a public figure."

"You didn't even tell me. When does your contract with Cordelia end?" Deanna pretended to ask, "No

wonder you two don't have kids."

"Why should it end? There's no stipulation." Ronan lit a cigarette and sat down, looking at Deanna

seriously.

Deanna was taken aback, "No end date? Then why sign a contract? Is it until your grandfather...?"

"It has nothing to do with my grandfather. I fell in love with her, and we got married. Why bring up the

contract?" Ronan raised an eyebrow, his expression irresistibly charming.

Deanna didn't know how to respond. "I see. Well, I wish you two happiness forever. I haven't finished

shooting my ad. Your company staff should get back to work, too. I'll go shoot the ad." With that,

Deanna left.

She squinted craftily. She figured since it was a contract marriage, Ronan must have done it for his Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

grandfather. Ronan wasn't saying it now because he was afraid his grandfather would find out. Was it

that when his grandfather died, their contract marriage would end? It must be.

Deanna speculated in silence, figuring that the grandfather was the key to the problem. When he died,

their marriage would end.

So, the grandfather.

Just as Deanna left, melodious music echoed from where Ronan hung his coat. It seemed like

Cordelia's phone ringing, because Ronan's phone was on the table.

Ronan took Cordelia's phone out of his coat pocket and picked up. It was Trina who called.

"Cordelia, Cordelia, your mom woke up, she just spoke to me," Trina excitedly said.

Ronan was about to call Cordelia to come up and get her phone, but thinking of what Shelley said that

day, he decided to visit Shelley first.

"I'm Cordelia's husband. Her phone ended up in my pocket," Ronan said.

"Well," Trina was still excited, "either way, tell Cordelia, her mom woke up."

"I'll go see her on behalf of Cordelia. She's at work."

"Alright. See you." Trina hung up.
