The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 147

Chapter 147

In the morning, Cordelia and Ronan headed to the office together.

Around eleven, Ronan swung by the Audit Department. Since the Audit Department had those see-

through glass doors, Cordelia spotted him the moment he showed up.

His gaze seemed to slide unconsciously towards Cordelia's office. And Cordelia, instinctively, shielded

her profile from his view.

Cordelia saw Wyatt and Ronan leaving the building together. When it came to upper management

affairs, Cordelia had no say.

Ronan had called Wyatt to interview the new CFO. After the interview, Ronan returned to his office to

find Deanna sitting there.

"Didn't lock the door, did I?" Ronan frowned slightly.

This remark made Deanna uncomfortable. Was she someone that needed to be guarded against in

Ronan's eyes?

"How's your grandpa's health, Ronan?" Deanna asked, putting on a show of concern.

"How did you know he was sick?" Ronan responded, his expression was nothing but cold disdain

towards Deanna. However, Deanna remained oblivious.

She believed that over the years, Ronan's attitude towards her hadn't changed, so she had just been

too willful and went abroad. Now, all she needed to do was win back Ronan’s heart. His marriage to

Cordelia was merely a contractual agreement, and once Barney passed away, the agreement would

end.

"I called Grandpa a few days ago when I was out of town shooting a movie and asked about his health.

That's when he told me he was sick." Deanna had actually called to probe whether Barney had passed

away.

Turned out, he was still kicking.

"Really? That's good. The doctor is quite skilled," Ronan responded coldly.

"I do hope Grandpa stays healthy, but thinking about your marriage agreement with Cordelia, I just..."

Deanna started crying, acting like she was regretting her past recklessness. If she hadn't been so

impulsive, Ronan wouldn't have had to suffer this way.

Ronan looked at her, recalling the past. Five years ago, he had set a trap for himself. He was in debt of

several billions of dollars and was on the brink of bankruptcy. He thought Deanna, who loved him so

much, would stick with him through thick and thin. But she had left to go abroad, claiming her acting

skills were “not up to par”…

It was only last year, when she found out Ronan was the wealthiest man in Millstone that she returned.

That was when Ronan realized that she was not to be trusted. Not to mention, now he knew her true

colors.

But as Grandpa said, even if Deanna was guilty, it would just be attempted murder, and if convicted,

the sentence would be light.

Ronan decided, one day, he would make her pay for her crime of attempted murder!

"Are you going home tonight?" Deanna asked him.

"My wife is staying at her mom's for a few days, so I'm going there too." Ronan said, puffing on his

cigarette, his gaze fixed on Deanna.

"Has Cordelia's mother woken up?" Deanna suddenly seemed anxious, and the moment Ronan called

Cordelia wife, she felt very displeased.

"Yes, she's awake, but she can't speak yet," Ronan added.

Hearing this, Deanna looked slightly relieved. If she couldn't speak, that was acceptable. She wasn't

sure how much Shelley knew about the past. Maybe she knew nothing at all?

She had a hunch that the past was about to catch up with her.

"I think, maybe with some therapy, she'll be able to speak," Deanna said deliberately.

"Maybe. Anyway, I need to get back to work,." Ronan said.

"Alright, I'll leave now. I just came to ask about Grandpa's health." Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

Ronan had no idea that before he had arrived, Deanna had slipped a USB drive into his bag.

Ronan mentioned that he was going to Cordelia's house that afternoon. Around four in the afternoon,

Cordelia received a call from Deanna.

"Cordelia, I left a USB drive in Ronan's bag, could you help me find it? It has some really important stuff

on it. Ronan can't know, okay? Cordelia?" Deanna pleaded.

"How did your USB drive end up in his bag?" Cordelia asked, taken aback.

Deanna had deceived her many times before, so Cordelia had to be careful.

"Oh, never mind that. After all, your marriage to him is just a contract. I won't hide anything from you,"

Deanna said.

After the call, Cordelia was so angry she almost hung up the phone.
