The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 199

Chapter 199

After the afternoon tutoring session ended, Emerson was ready to leave, while Cordelia was tidying up.

"You're wearing glasses now?" Emerson asked Ronan.

Cordelia turned to look at Ronan, seeing him wearing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses. His usual stern

and calm demeanor was somewhat diminished, making him seem more gentle and graceful.

"Yes."

"You like to use this to attract girls, don't you?" Emerson said before leaving.

Cordelia picked up her bag and asked him, "Why are you wearing glasses?"

"How do I look?" His gazes were sharp and charming, looking at Cordelia through the lenses.

"Very..."

"Very what?" He pressed, not letting Cordelia off the hook.

"Very attractive."

"Attractive to you?" He asked again.

Cordelia nodded, "Yes, very attractive."

"He always wanted me to look like this." Ronan added.

"He?" Cordelia was puzzled, then realized, "Your father?"

"Of course," Ronan said, walking over from the desk, grabbing Cordelia's hand, "Let's go."

Cordelia agreed and followed him.

Once in the car, Cordelia turned to ask him, "Did he want you to become a scholar?"

"Yes," he responded, driving and answering at the same time.

Cordelia felt that Ronan's mood was not very good today, as if he was troubled by something from the

past, and seemed down.

"What kind of scholar?"

"Like my grandfather," Ronan sneered, "What's the use of being a scholar? In the end, it was me..."

This was the first time Ronan had ever stopped mid-sentence. He was not usually like this.

"A scholar?" Cordelia nodded thoughtfully. "No wonder you love reading so much and don't like

socializing. If you really became a college professor, I wonder how many girls would be infatuated with

you." Cordelia fell into deep thought.

"Would you be infatuated with me?" He asked.

"Maybe," Cordelia smiled, "But if you resent his expectations so much, why would you wear glasses to

appease him?" Cordelia asked.

"To avoid conflict, and to avoid him getting angry," Ronan turned and said with a frown, "Why are you

asking so many questions? Shouldn't you be the one to worry?"

"What do I have to worry about?" Cordelia asked nonchalantly.

"You're going to meet my parents."

"I'm so beautiful." Cordelia said proudly.

Ronan didn't say anything, because Cordelia was indeed beautiful, and he couldn't dispute it.

"By the way, my mom asked me last time, now that your parents are back, should she come to visit?"

Cordelia thought that in front of Ronan's parents, Shelley might not amount to much.

"Whatever," he seemed a bit irritable, holding his hand to his mouth and coughing slightly.

"Are you okay?" Cordelia asked him.

"I'm fine, probably caught a cold last night."

As soon as they got home, Cordelia saw a distinguished-looking middle-aged couple sitting on the sofa

in the living room. They were both tall, and it was clear that they must have been a handsome man and

a beautiful woman in their youth. However, Olen's hair had turned gray, not from old age, but seemingly

from sudden anxiety.

Cordelia was startled, her hand held by Ronan. She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, and

Ronan was locked in a stare with them.

"Ronan, how have you been these years?" Amanda asked Ronan, with a hint of unease and

appeasement in her tone.

Ronan was still staring at Olen, not greeting them, only saying, "You're here? Get Janice to prepare a

room for you."

After that, he went upstairs. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

Cordelia stayed downstairs. "Don't be upset. He's just not used to it," She sat downstairs talking to his

parents. She asked Janice to call Barney down, otherwise, she would feel very awkward alone.

It was clear that Olen and Amanda had already chatted with Barney, so when Barney came out,

Cordelia didn't notice anything unusual.

"You're Della?" Amanda held Cordelia's hand, "Barney often mentions you, he likes you a lot, and so

does Ronan. So we like you even more."

Cordelia didn't expect her first meeting with her in-laws to go so smoothly. They didn't criticize her at all,

because they seemed to want to improve their relationship with Ronan through Cordelia.

At dinner, Ronan didn't come downstairs. Cordelia had Janice save him some food. At the dinner table,

Cordelia learned that Olen had been teaching at a university abroad for the past few years, while

Amanda hadn't been doing anything, just accompanying Olen.

Olen kept his head down, not saying a word.

Cordelia thought to herself: Did a grown man really need someone to accompany him?

"Della, do you have anything to do after dinner?" Amanda asked Cordelia.

"No."

"If you're not busy, let’s go to the grocery store to buy some turkey."

"Why do you need to buy turkey?" Cordelia was puzzled.

"I thought that if we have time tomorrow, I'd make some roast turkey for Ronan. He likes it." At this

point, Amanda became a bit sad, and her eyes seemed to fill with tears.

"He likes roast turkey?" Both Cordelia and Janice were surprised.

"Didn't he tell you?"

"No." Cordelia put down her utensils. Ronan had never mentioned it.

And even at Christmas dinner, Cordelia didn't think he had a particular fondness for roast turkey.
