The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 359

Chapter 359

The luxury business car of the mysterious man kicked up a cloud of dust as it sped away. It was clear

they were using fake plates. Cordelia had a sinking feeling that she'd just bumped into some powerful

underworld organization. A shiver ran down her spine.

"Cordelia, are you okay?" Brooklyn jogged over. "Who were they? Why were they looking for you?"

She also gave Cordelia's outfit a quick once-over. It was intact, so hopefully, nothing untoward had

happened. "Oh, no biggie, just something about Samantha." Cordelia hugged herself, shivering. "I just

want to get home quickly."

"Okay, got it." With that, Brooklyn flagged down a cab.

On the way home, Cordelia's mind was a whirlwind. Initially, the decision to go abroad or not was solely

hers to make. Now, she had no other choice but to leave.

Those people were capable of anything, dark and powerful, like rats in a gutter, always catching you off

guard. They might even have been responsible for the death of Cordelia's grandmother. For Ronan to

engage with such individuals would be a total waste of time and would only lower his standards.

Cordelia didn't want that for him. However, she couldn't tell Ronan anything.

"Brooklyn, you must not tell Ronan about what happened tonight. Otherwise, any bloodshed that

befalls our family in the future will be on your hands." Cordelia intentionally exaggerated the

consequences to ensure Brooklyn took the matter seriously. Sure enough, Brooklyn took it very

seriously, nodding her head emphatically.

By the time Cordelia got home, it was already nine o'clock.

"You're just getting home?" Ronan scrutinized her from his perch on the bedroom sofa, seemingly

displeased.

"Yes."

"What were you up to?"

"Met some people in the film industry. Their wives are quite impressive, PhDs and all that, keeping their

husbands on a tight leash. I was thinking I might want to do the same to you," Cordelia replied.

"You don't need to."

"Not now, but what about the future?"

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Ronan said.

After a moment of silence, Cordelia said, "I want to go to the States for further studies. I've already

received an offer."

Ronan squinted his eyes, then said seriously, "So all this was just leading up to that? No!"

Cordelia had anticipated some resistance, but Ronan's absolute refusal caught her off guard. "If you

want to work, I can arrange that," Ronan softened his tone slightly.

"The kid is young, and doesn't really need me..."

"If you leave, he'll never need you!" Ronan told Cordelia. "I'll arrange for my parents to go back to

Canada. You don't need to use this as an excuse!"

Ronan hoped Cordelia was just probing and using this as an excuse to get his parents back to Canada.

He hoped she was not that determined to abandon her husband and child and go to another country,

Cordelia furrowed her brows. "You're misunderstanding this. It's not because of them. I told you long

ago about my intention to pursue further studies. I think now is the perfect time."

"Don't bring this up again," Ronan issued a final ultimatum to Cordelia. "Also, either stay or, if you

leave, don't come back. I mean what I say."

With that, Ronan stood up to go to the bathroom. Cordelia paused for a moment, then said, "Fine!"

"What?" Ronan's steps halted.

"I... will never come back!" Cordelia's words echoed around the room, and her heart was sinking to the Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

pit of her stomach.

Ronan's words, once uttered, were like water spilled, irrevocable. He turned around to look at Cordelia.

"Did my words conveniently give you a reason to never return?" Ronan asked her.
