And there they were, eye to eye. In Cordelia's gaze lingered a hint of mockery towards Ronan.

Perhaps their last encounter, which happened unexpectedly at her grandfather's doorstep, didn't give

her enough time to study Ronan's demeanor and his attire. Now, he still carried that polished charm

about him. She found herself wondering if beneath his suave exterior, lurked a beast of a man.

He wore a high-quality T-shirt, matched with a pair of trousers of the same color. His aura screamed

"boss," but it wasn't overly arrogant. There was a hint of scholarly reserve about him. This unique blend

of traits was probably unmatched in the business world. Moreover, he radiated an attractive, almost

palpable desire.

Ronan clearly didn't expect Cordelia to be there.

"Mr. Evans, you probably don't know her yet. This is our independent board director, Ms. Cordelia

Haselwood," Peter introduced to Ronan.

A smirk appeared on Ronan's lips. "Indeed, I don't."

Turning his head towards Emerson, he asked, "How come you didn't mention she'd be here?"

Emerson thought to himself, “Why am I being dragged into this?”

"Yes, Ms. Haselwood recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh. She hasn't been with us for

long. I've attended meetings at the University of Edinburgh, where Ms. Haselwood was known for her

hard work and was among the top students. She has participated in several company acquisition

evaluations and has a lot of experience," Peter continued to introduce Cordelia.

To Cordelia, his words probably sounded like mockery to Ronan.

He claimed didn't know her. Well, it made sense. After all, they were on opposing sides today.

Cordelia struggled to keep a polite smile on her face.

"Is that so?" Ronan said lightly.

As soon as he walked in, Peter had already automatically offered him the head seat at the conference

table. At this point, Cordelia was sitting next to Ronan.

Ronan smirked at Cordelia. "How old is Ms. Haselwood?"

"Twenty-eight," Cordelia responded.

"You don't look it. You look like a college student," Ronan teased with a light smile.

Cordelia was unsure of his intention, was he praising her youthful looks or implying that she was

carefree and unburdened?

"Despite her young age, Ms. Haselwood is very experienced, Mr. Evans. Don't underestimate her,"

Peter defended Cordelia. He was worried that Ronan would dismiss Cordelia due to her youth.

"You're quite young yourself, Mr. Evans," Cordelia retorted.

"Am I?" Ronan chuckled, turning towards Emerson for validation.

"Yes, indeed, young, a promising talent," Emerson complimented Ronan, playing along.

"Well, Mr. Evans, in light of the contract we are signing today, I have a few personal opinions I would

like to share..." Cordelia began, flipping through the contract. "This is Lumos Enterprises' standard

contract, but I have a few suggestions. I wonder if you would be willing to consider them. For the fifth

clause under the fourth section, I suggest we change it to..."

Ronan glanced at the contract half a beat later, then lifted his gaze to Cordelia. "Agreed."

Encouraged by Ronan's affirmative response, Cordelia smiled. "For the eighth clause under the

seventh section, we would like to revise the default responsibilities. We propose to change it to..."

"Agreed."

Cordelia proposed several changes, and Ronan agreed to them all. His rash agreement made Cordelia

a bit uneasy. She wondered, did Ronan have a scheme up his sleeve?

"Mr. Evans, you don't have to..." Cordelia began.

"What?" Ronan looked up at Cordelia, and she saw her own reflection in his pupils.

Cordelia lowered her head in regret for her words. She had meant to say not to agree blindly just

because it was her proposal and to consider the terms carefully.

"Look at your employee; she's haggling me on your behalf, and when I agree, she tells me not to rush,"

Ronan said to Peter with a laugh.

But his laugh was inscrutable.

"But Mr. Evans, you still agreed," Peter pointed out.

Peter even thought, “The reason Ronan agreed so quickly was probably because of Cordelia's youth

and beauty. Moreover, the terms Cordelia proposed were inconsequential to Lumos Enterprises.”
