The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 453

Chapter 453

"Mrs. Evans, why don't you mend things with Mr. Evans? You two are head over heels for each other.

Give yourselves a break. Besides, Mr. Evans' parents have moved back to Canada, no one's going to

bother you anymore, okay?" Janice pleaded with Cordelia, actually addressing Harold as well.

Cordelia just gave a bitter smile. "That's all in the past. Let's focus on the future."

"Oh, Cordelia, where are you planning to spend the Fourth of July?" Janice asked.

Harold's hand tensed. He was planning to invite Cordelia for a mountain hike on the holiday.

"I haven't decided yet."

"Why don't you visit Millstone?" Janice held Cordelia's hand. "You're from Millstone, Brooklyn got

married, and you didn't even know."

Cordelia nodded. "Alright."

Janice smiled. She was exhausted tonight, trying to help her son and mend things between Cordelia

and Ronan, without raising any suspicions. After all, her son was her world. They spent two hours over

dinner, but the dishes on the table remained untouched.

At nine o'clock, they finished talking.

"Let's go, back to campus," Cordelia nudged Harold.

Harold was up and running.

Janice called after him, "Harold," but he didn't hear her.

"Janice, it's okay," Cordelia said, "You should head home."

Janice reluctantly left, glancing back three times on her way back to Ronan’s grandfather's house.

Ronan was sitting on the couch reading, while Emerson was putting the kids to bed in the bedroom.

"So, you met your son's sweetheart?" Ronan asked Janice in a leisurely manner.

"Pfft, he doesn't have a sweetheart. But I did meet Cordelia. She's my son's accounting professor.

She'll be mentoring him in the future. No wonder you've been hanging around Birchwood instead of

going back, Mr. Evans. Cordelia is here," Janice said, forcing a smile.

"Hmm, that's not it. I'm genuinely busy with work."

"Mr. Evans, why don't you give it a shot with Cordelia? There are no more barriers, right? Cordelia has

her Ph.D. and doesn't have to worry about studying abroad anymore. She even promised to go back to

Millstone for the Fourth of July."

Ronan looked up. "What's she going back to Millstone for?"

"I told her Brooklyn got married. She probably feels guilty for not being there for her friend and wants to RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

make up for her absence."

"I see."

With little effort from Ronan, things between Cordelia and Harold ended.

Emerson came out of the bedroom. "Cordelia is Harold's crush?" He asked, a bit surprised yet certain.

Emerson was a clever man; he had heard the gist of Janice's conversation with Ronan. He guessed

that Harold had feelings for Cordelia, given how Ronan had been acting lately.

After Janice retired for the night, Emerson went to Ronan's room.

"Still mad? Cordelia handled this beautifully. Why are you upset? Shouldn't you be proud that your ex-

wife caught the eye of a handsome young man? I've noticed you've been sulking lately. Enough

already."

"Shouldn't I be mad?"

"You should. But now that Cordelia has dealt with this, what's there to be mad about? She went to

Janice herself, didn't she? If Harold is any bit sensible, he won't pursue Cordelia anymore. She's going

back to Millstone for the Fourth of July. You going?"

Ronan lay on his bed, his eyes half-closed. "No."

But if she's going back to Millstone, should she know about the Facebook posts? After all, he posted

them just to tease her. If she doesn't know about it, then what was the point?
