The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 456

Chapter 456

Cordelia returned to Millstone and went to Brooklyn’s home. Brooklyn had a sour expression when she

went to pick up Cordelia at the station. "Never thought you'd show up again. Heartless people like you

aren't common. Guess your education really is the most important to you," Brooklyn grumbled.

Cordelia knew she had let Brooklyn down over the years, but she didn't argue.

"I came to Millstone. Aren't you going to treat me to a meal?" Cordelia asked, not bothering with

formalities with an old friend.

"Treat you? My housekeeper cooks delicious meals. Why waste money eating out? Let's go home,"

Brooklyn retorted.

Cordelia followed Brooklyn home. Edwin was still at work and hadn't returned yet.

Brooklyn glanced at her watch. "He should be home soon."

After Edwin got married, he moved out of the family home. Thanks to the money he made from his

video games, he bought a duplex. Now, their family of three was incredibly happy, and Brooklyn was

expecting another child.

Brooklyn instructed her son, Andi, to call Cordelia "Aunt Cordelia"

"He's grown so much?" Cordelia exclaimed, a pang of sadness hitting her as she thought of Callum, a

boy she barely knew.

"Yes, Cordelia. I may not have been the best student or the best worker, but I am the happiest. Edwin

gives me his paycheck every month, and I manage all our finances," Brooklyn proudly stated.

"Alright, no one can beat your happiness. Remember, I'm your child's godmother," Cordelia said with a

smug smile.

In front of Brooklyn, Cordelia felt like her old self again. C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

"Who's going to be the godmother?" A voice came from the door.

"Cordelia?" Edwin looked surprised. "You want to be the godmother? Do you know who the godfather

is?"

"Who?" Cordelia asked.

She thought, “It couldn't be him, could it?” She never thought he would have the leisure to be someone

else's godfather!

Brooklyn coughed at Edwin, and they both remained silent.

The meal prepared by Brooklyn's housekeeper was indeed delicious, and Cordelia enjoyed it

immensely.

"Look at your son, Cordelia. He's a real handful," Edwin said, looking at his phone.

"What?"

Edwin showed Cordelia the screen, flipping through pictures. It was indeed Callum.

"Where did you see this?" Cordelia asked.

"Mr. Evans' Facebook. He's constantly showing off pictures of Callum."

"I haven't checked Facebook yet," Cordelia confessed, trying to cover her embarrassment.

She didn't want Brooklyn and Edwin to know that she wasn't friends with Ronan on Facebook. That

would be too embarrassing.

Brooklyn noticed Cordelia's discomfort and quickly changed the subject. "Cordelia, have you been in

touch with your brother, Adrian?"

"No, I haven't. I came back to visit my mom's grave, and I'll probably see Adrian. We can't become

strangers," Cordelia replied, unsure of what Adrian had become.

"Speaking of Adrian, never mind," Brooklyn stopped herself and continued eating.

Brooklyn's unfinished sentence made Cordelia feel uneasy and guilty. She guessed Adrian must've

done something to upset Brooklyn.

Actually, what Brooklyn wanted to say was that she had car trouble and took it to a nearby garage. A

minor issue that could've been fixed for a few hundred dollars ended up costing five thousand when

Adrian got involved. After the car was fixed, Brooklyn had no choice but to accept the loss.

Out of embarrassment, Cordelia sent Adrian a message. [Adrian, let's visit Mom's grave soon.]

Cordelia wanted to see Adrian more than she wanted to visit their mother's grave. Despite Adrian's

failures, she still cared for him as they had grown up together.
