The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 493

Chapter 493

“Recently, I haven’t been cooking much; let me know how it tastes,” Cordelia said, acting proper and

appropriate in front of Petra.

Ronan and Petra’s meals were separate, and Petra felt like a third wheel, uncomfortably out of place.

“Besides this fish, the rest is pretty average,” Ronan commented.

Cordelia was lost for words. Other than the fish that she had bought, everything else was her own

cooking. She suspected that Ronan knew this and was teasing her on purpose, trying to embarrass

her. Ignoring him, Cordelia sat by the bed, watching the child.

The fish was from the cafeteria, where Petra ate daily, so naturally, she knew. She laughed and said,

“Stop teasing Cordelia, look, she’s blushing.”

It was almost December, and the darkness fell early. The curtains in the hospital room weren’t drawn,

and Cordelia’s glowing face contrasted sharply against the black night outside. Her long eyelashes Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

fluttered, and her eyes were filled with an innocent naivety, quite childlike, even though she was a

mother herself now.

Perhaps due to the teasing from Ronan and Petra, Cordelia felt a little upset. “You two, it’s so easy for

you to bring others down.”

Ronan and Petra exchanged glances. That single glance made Petra’s heart flutter. She knew that

Ronan’s glance at her was more for Cordelia’s sake, as she saw his attention return to Cordelia shortly

after. So, whether it was Petra sitting here today or not, Ronan would’ve shared that look. Petra

suddenly felt a pang of jealousy towards Cordelia.

“How are you getting back? With us?” Ronan asked Cordelia.

Cordelia thought for a moment. “How much longer till IV is done?”

“Three hours?” Ronan asked, turning to Petra for confirmation.

Petra nodded.

“No, I have to get up early tomorrow. Besides, don’t you have to carry the child upstairs when you get

back? The faculty building doesn’t have an elevator, so Petra won’t be able to carry the child up alone.

You two better eat up. I'll wash the dishes once you're done," Cordelia suggested.

Just then, Cordelia's phone buzzed with a text on Messenger. [Hey, Cordelia. I'm in Birchwood, are you

free?]

Cordelia stared at the message for a while, her heart trembling. She pretended not to care and didn't

respond.

Once Ronan and Petra finished eating, Cordelia washed the dishes and prepared to leave.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" Ronan asked.

"Oh, it’s okay. I can take a taxi. You should take Petra and the child home. I'm going to sleep when I get

back," Cordelia said, turning to leave.

"Don't forget to text me when you get home," Ronan reminded Cordelia.

"Okay."

After leaving the hospital and getting into a taxi, Cordelia texted Eason back. The message she had

received earlier had been from him.

[When did you get to Birchwood? Where are you now? I'll come to you.] Cordelia asked.

[I'm staying at Crown Hotel for a conference. Come over, I have something to show you.]

[Okay, on my way.] Cordelia instructed the driver to change direction and head to the Crown Hotel.

The hotel was quite far from Birchwood College, practically on opposite ends of the city. When Cordelia

arrived at the hotel lobby, she texted Eason. [I'm here, are you in your room?]

[I just checked, the hotel is quite a distance from your school. Don't go back tonight, get a room

downstairs, either next to 2036 or opposite it, and head straight to school from here tomorrow.]

[Understood.]

Cordelia did as Eason suggested and got a room from the front desk, right across from Eason's room.
