Chapter 2163
Chapter 2163
Bella flipped through the document for a closer look.
The print in red made her realize that it was a confidential document.
Prying into another country's secrets was dishonest and improper behavior, but it was too late. She had already turned the page.
Soon, she discovered that these materials were likely submitted by the state security bureau, containing information on spies who had harmed Sentania's national interest over the years. They were likely fugitives at large, yet to be arrested and brought to justice.
These individuals were either born into privilege, elites in their right, or highly ranked.
The crimes they committed were shocking and deserved the death penalty.
Bella went through the document quickly. Her great memory would make her the perfect spy.
She quickly read through everything and remembered it all.
By the eleventh file, she narrowed her eyes.
Unlike the previous files, the photo section was left empty.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
[Name: Nadia Brown]
[Age: 25 years old]
[A former captain of the royal special force and a member of Sentania's secret spies. She was sentenced to death for stealing state secrets and colluding with the enemy. She fled to avoid execution.]
Bella stared at the words, clenching the paper unconsciously. She felt suffocated.
[The traitor fled by jumping into the sea three decades ago. Due to the investigation yielding no results and the statute of limitations having expired, the cabinet has decided to drop all criminal charges against her, pending the president's approval.]
The document was signed by King George of Sentania and stamped with the royal family's scal.
Edward had not put his signature on the papers, probably due to his busy work schedule. "Bella? Bella?"
Camilla tried snapping Bella out of her trance, but the latter was unresponsive.
Bella stared intently at the name on the document as a sense of familiarity rose within her.
She was a Brown and from Sentania. She was 25 when she jumped into the sea to escape execution thirty years ago.
These pieces of information fit her mother's description.
Could it be a coincidence?
Strangely enough, only Nadia's among the other files had the king's signature. It felt like a deliberate attempt to emphasize Nadia's importance and remind Edward to sign and approve it.
Bella's heart thumped out of her chest.
Coincidences happen all the time. However, when several coincidences occurred all at once, it was unlikely to be a series of random incidents.
"Oh, no." Camilla drew close and saw Bella going through her husband's confidential document. She pulled the papers out of Bella's hands. "You can't read this, Bella. Even I will make myself scarce when Edward is reviewing documents."
"S-Sorry, Camilla." Bella looked dazed.
"It's okay." Finding herself dramatic, Camilla felt bad and went to hug Bella. "You didn't mean to. It's Edward's fault for his bad habit. He shouldn't leave important papers lying around."
As Camilla put away the document, Bella said in a hoarse voice, "Camilla, I..."
"What's the matter?"
Camilla looked at Bella's discolored face in confusion and asked with concern, "You look sick, Bella. Is it jet lag? Should I get the house doctor to take a look at you?"
"Camilla... I-I..." A million thoughts raced through Bella's mind. In the end, she hung her head helplessly. "I'm alright. Don't worry about me."
After much thought, she realized the matter was too serious to discuss with Camilla under such circumstances.
For one, Camilla, the First Lady, could be accused of leaking classified information, and it would damage Edward's reputation.
Secondly, if Nadia was Bella's mother, she could start an uproar in a foreign land for launching an investigation recklessly. It would only give Christopher and other malicious parties ammunition to exploit.
Though it had been years since her mother's passing, her father was very much alive. Capturing Christopher was the primary objective, and she could afford to delay this investigation.
