"I'll call him and help him find another interpreter. You need to rest at home and not work!"

Ranita grumbled, "If you don't like it, I'll keep my distance from them in the future. But... let me go this time."

"Brendon..." Ranita's eyes were watery and round, looking at Brendon like a cat that made his heart itch.

"Just this once, okay?" Ranita explained after pausing for a moment. "It won't be hard for me. I'll take care of myself and won't tire myself out."

As she spoke, Ranita remembered that women who acted cute had an easier life. So she put on a pitiful look with a soft voice humming, "Brendon..."

Her voice was gentle and sweet.

Brendon shuddered when he heard her voice, feeling his hand on her waist getting warmer.

Clearing his throat, Brendon let go of her and continued eating.

After some time passed in silence between them at the table, Brendon suddenly said, "Ranita... you don't like Shannon being too close to me. I will talk to her about it and handle it."

The sound of a pin dropping could be heard in the dining room.

For a while, Ranita put down her fork and looked seriously at Brendon. Whenever Shannon was mentioned between them, there was always an underlying tension.

Ranita's heart felt like it had a heavy stone tied to it, sinking under the unbearable weight.

"How do you want to handle it?" She paused before asking again, "Have you slept with her?"

After asking, Ranita realized that her heartache was making it hard for her to breathe.

Ranita had wanted to ask for a long time, but she didn't dare. Like an ostrich, she hid her head, refusing to listen or see, thinking that the matter would pass.

However, to her surprise, not only did it not pass, but it also festered like a festering sore. Scratching the surface revealed the raw and painful truth beneath.

"Ranita…I'm not sure," Brendon hesitated as he recalled how he fell into temptation as if he was dreaming.

He remembered having someone beside him while sleeping but waking up alone instead.

His hesitation only made Ranita lose courage even more.

She was too scared to hear what answer might come out so she decided, "Forget about it! Let's not talk about this anymore."

How pathetic was she? As long as he didn't divorce her then she would pretend nothing happened!

"Ranita!" Brendon grabbed hold of her hand noticing how slightly trembling they were before apologizing softly saying, "I will handle things quickly. Sorry!"

With only an "Mm" sound coming from Ranita's lips did their conversation end there.

Just then, Ranita's phone rang. It was sitting on the dining table and when Brendon saw the caller ID read "Brother," his face turned dark. "Why is he calling you again?"

"I'll take this call," Ranita said as she grabbed her phone and headed to the study.

"Hey, brother. Why are you calling me at this hour? Have you eaten yet?" Ranita lowered her voice, sounding very gentle.

Jedidiah chuckled softly. "I have already eaten. What about you?"

"I've had dinner too." After a pause, Ranita took the initiative to say, "I'm doing well lately and there's no need for you to worry."

"Don't I always worry about you? You haven't called me in days and your phone is always off. What have you been up to?"

Ranita brushed it off with a vague answer, "Just busy with work."

"Well... busy or not, take care of yourself," Jedidiah sighed dejectedly before adding. "I just wish we could keep in touch more often."

Ranita felt uneasy inside but nodded anyway, "Sure thing. I'll try my best... and sorry for making you worry." Her voice was soft and full of affection.

Brendon listened outside the door feeling like his heart had been squeezed by lemons – sour as can be!
