The Girl Named Mirage

Nicolo Esquibel is talking with Attorney David Mendez on his phone while he’s looking outside the window of his room. He’s watching Euphemia play in the garden with her nanny. She’s crawling on the grass, trying to catch one of the butterflies she’s seen flying around the flowers. Her face shines with happiness. He loves watching her play, she’s so happy all the time. Doesn’t have any idea what’s really happening around her and what’s going on with her Mom. Just being pure and innocent.

” I’m on my way to meet Mr. Sanford, sir Nick. I’m actually here outside his office. ” Attorney Mendez was about to knock when they both heard Harvey’s voice.

” Wait, don’t go in there yet. ” Nicolo ordered the attorney.

” Sure, sir. This actually sounds interesting. ” the attorney replied.

” I’m here to say that you’re going to be fired. ” Harvey said arrogantly.

” Wow. Who does he think he is? ” Nicolo said. Attorney Mendez just quietly chuckled.

” I’ll tell the management to fire you because you’re incompetent and irresponsible. ” Harvey continues to mock Elven while the latter stays silent.

” Oh, I would love to give him a punch in the face if only I’m there. ” Nicolo sneered.

” I don’t mind if you asked me to. ” Attorney says playfully.

” I would love to, but I don’t want you to get your hand dirty, attorney. ” Nicolo smiles. He really likes this attorney’s humor.

” I know what you’re thinking. But I’ll make sure that everyone’s going to know your incompetence and how incompetent you are. ” Harvey said, sounding so dignified.

” Attorney, do you have a hands free device with you? ” Nicolo said.

” I’m actually using one right now, why do you ask? ” Attorney Mendez adjusted his earpiece as he answered Nicolo’s inquiry.

” Good. Please do me a favor. Let me borrow your mouth just this time, attorney. ”

” As you wish, sir Nick. ”

” Now I’m done here, I’m leaving. You know, I don’t want to see that face of yours ever again. You can submit your resignation letter tomorrow . ” Harvey said triumphantly.

” Let’s go, attorney. ”

And the attorney entered the room.

” I don’t think that’s necessary, Mr. Fred Harvey.” Nicolo said through Attorney Mendez of course.

Everyone’s eyes follow the voice of the newcomer. Fred Harvey was shocked but smiled as he recognized Attorney David Mendez. The crews were amazed and couldn’t help but admire the handsome attorney that Nicolo heard some suppressed giggles and words of admirations.

” Woah. I don’t know that you are such a well-known attorney in the Philippines. I won’t be surprised if you’re going to tell me that you actually have a fans club there.” Nicolo said, sounding really amused.

The handsome attorney can’t help but smile as Nicolo teases him.

He’s really well-known not just because he was the CEO of the well-known law firm owned by the Esquibels but he really is a top notch attorney. He has a high winning rate and he was the number one sought after attorney in the country. He was also awarded many times plus he was actually handsome at the age of 39. He’s a bachelor that many women want.

Attorney Mendez stopped in front of Elven and offered his hand.

” I’m attorney David Mendez of LE Firm. I’m the legal representative of the new CEO of this company and this mall. ”

Elven took his hand.

” I’m Elven Sanford. I’m the manager here, sir. ” Elven said politely.

” I’m Fred Harvey, attorney. I’m the general manager-

” Not anymore. ” said Nicolo. And the attorney relayed the message.

Harvey’s eyes widened in shock. The staff were puzzled. They don’t have any idea what’s going on. They’ve been surprised by too many unexpected events today.

” But sir- ” Harvey said with a pleading voice. And a begging look on his ugly face. Far from his arrogant and annoying look earlier.

” No buts. You already did so much harm to this company so I’m not going to let you stay here for another minute.” attorney Mendez said nonchalantly. ” Or do you want me to organize a mini reunion with you…

in court? ”

the attorney added mischievously.

” Oh. You’ve done your assignment, attorney. ” Nicolo said, smirking on the other line.

Fred Harvey shut his mouth and scurried away. Afraid that his little secret would be known if he stays there a little bit longer.

” And with that, Congratulations Mr Sanford. You’re now the new General Manager. ” attorney Mendez announced and the crews were shocked again but celebrated after realizing that the attorney wasn’t bluffing.

Elven was surprised just like the others.

” That was a bit too fast, attorney. I think there’s someone much more deserving for that position. ” Elven said awkwardly.

” Are you saying you don’t deserve that position? ” Nicolo asked. He’s starting to know what kind of person Elven is.

Elven scratches his head as he can’t answer the question right away. And he doesn’t exactly know what is the right answer to that question. Does he really need to say that he deserves it?

” That’s not what I want to say, sir. It’s just that there are people who worked much longer and contributed a lot more to the company other than me. ” Elven said politely as usual. He’s not one to brag.

” It’s not just always those who worked longer and contributed more are the only ones that deserve a good position. Those who worked honestly and passionately are meant to be blessed too. ” Nicolo said with a smile. Though no one could ever see that.

” If only I could tell you that you are actually the new CEO’s husband, then you don’t need to be the general manager of that company anymore. You’ll be the president of that mall instead. ” Nicolo said, sounding bitter because of Mirage’s current situation. And attorney Mendez understands it very well.

” So just accept the position, Mr. Sanford. You are more deserving than you give yourself credit for. ” attorney Mendez said with a smile that hides a certain secret that Elven would truly die for to know.

The company where Elven is working, the one that Nicolo bought, was actually bought under the name of Mirage. She’s the new CEO of the company and that whole supermall without her knowing as she was still lying in her hospital bed.
