The President’s Mistake A Tale of Love and Regret

Chapter 170

Chapter 170

Chapter 170 Shattered Promises And Vulnerable Outbursts.

Nathaniel felt a murderous rage brewing within him.

Ever since witnessing Freya’s mistreatment in prison, he had been struggling to keep his emotions in check, vowing never to cause her any more pain.

However, Freya’s recent actions were pushing him to his limits. His grip on her phone tightened, and he abruptly snatched it from her grasp.

Reflecting on it, their behavior was rather childish.

They were like two kindergarten children squabbling over a toy, cach refusing to yield.

This time, however, Nathaniel emerged victorious. Just as he was about to depart with the phone. Freya abruptly sat up on the bed, flinging her arms around his neck and clinging to him tightly.

Nathaniel was taken aback. Her unexpected embrace sent a shock through his system, causing him to tremble slightly.

Freya clung to his sturdy neck like a koala, her body suspended in front of his chest. Instinctively, he held her close, dropping the phone onto the bed.

Her tear–choked voice was muffled against his ear. “Why? Please tell me why!”

Nathaniel was at a loss for words.

Freya took a shaky breath, her voice trembling. “I thought you said you wanted to marry me! Why don’t you want to marry me?”

“You promised when we were in Rome, you tossed a coin into the wishing well, and said we would marry upon our return. You said our wedding would be heavenly, and you wanted to travel the world with me, visiting every museum…”

“Why are you breaking your promise, Nathaniel?”

Freya’s scent, which always intoxicated him, lingered on her body. It wasn’t overpowering or ostentatious, but subtly reminiscent of fresh tea.

This time, she was clinging to him tightly. It was the first time she had willingly shown him her vulnerability since her release from prison.

It seemed she harbored deep feelings for him too.

The typically composed Nathaniel was momentarily speechless. He found himself explaining in a low, hoarse voice, “Uncle Michael’s cancer is terminal. He is gravely ill. He doesn’t have much time left.”

“I owe a great debt to the Hill family, I had to honor his request.”

“To marry Abigail and look after his daughter. And then divorce her after some time.” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

Freya buried her face in his chest, gave a slight nod, and released her grip on his neck.

He didn’t want her to see him this way, but he couldn’t bear to let her go. Having her in his arms again. was a rare comfort that left him somewhat bewildered.

Their interactions since her release from prison had been fraught with tension.

This was the first time they had interacted normally, as if the past three years had never happened. They were back to being the affectionate couple they once were.

Nathaniel gently kissed Freya’s forehead, then released her and looked into her eyes, unable to suppress his emotions any longer.

“I’m not leaving tonight. I want to stay with you,” Nathaniel said as he removed his blazer, casually tossed it onto the sofa, and loosened his tic.

Freya became anxious again. She had only wanted to prevent him from taking her phone, not to rekindle their past intimacy.

Every confrontation with him felt like walking a tightrope high above the ground.

Nathaniel didn’t undress further. He simply lay down on the bed fully clothed and pulled the blanket over Freya

“As autumn approaches, don’t kick off the blanket while you sleep,” he said, pulling her close against his

chest.

Freya stiffened slightly. She was pressed so close to him that she could feel an unfamiliar warmth radiating from his body.

She knew Nathaniel was restraining himself, which only heightened her fear.

He chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. I won’t do anything tonight. Just get some rest.”
