Miguel walked into the hospital smirking.

A new start

I hope it goes better than before. he thought himself as he approached the director to the hospital.

“Ah, Dr Miguel it's good to have you here. I've been waiting to introduce you to the other doctors you

would be working with." the director gently clapped his back.

“My pleasure Dr Horace." he nodded at him as he followed him wondering how his colleagues would

be like.

“ I hope you've been able to settle in Atlanta? Since it's a little different from Jersey City." he pointed

out.

“ I'm getting a hang of it, getting to know the crooks and crannies of the town," he replied.

“That's great, anyways this is your team of top surgeons you would be working with. Meet Dr Tom, Dr

Lilly, Dr Theo, Dr Lana, Nurse Practitioner May, and Nure Gina. Guys, meet Dr Miguel a cardiothoracic

surgeon, one of the best surgeons we've got here in Southside Medical, I hope you work well and

together." Dr Horace ended.

“ I would be looking forward to working with you." he smiled showing his dimples.

“ Dr Miguel if you don't mind, we've got a case you could look at." Dr Theo spoke up.

“Of course I would like to, " he replied.

“Great, shall we?" he took the lead as Miguel and Nurse May followed suit.

And the day begins. Miguel thought to himself.

Jess stood across the road watching the expansion process going on. She was proud of herself and

what she had been able to achieve.

What if I hadn't met Miguel?

Jess pondered to herself.

“Hey, you must be Jess...Jackie's twin?" A random girl said to her.

“Of course I am and I'm sorry to have we met before, cause I don't remember," she asked.

“Oh no, your sister mentioned she was a twin on tv and that if we saw a replica of her in Jersey City, NJ

that's you her twin," she explained.

“Ah, typical Jackie," Jess smirked.

“This place yours?" the girl started small talk.

“Yes, just doing some expansion to add more services to my salon." she felt good saying 'my salon'.

Miguel had changed the name of the owner to hers on all the documents he handed over to her.

“How long till the expansion is over, I could come for a good spa treatment or even a hairdo." the girl

further asked.

“ In two or three days at the pace, they're going," she answered.

“And I would love to give you that spa treatment as well," she added.

“Can I get your card so I could recommend a couple of friends of mine to come to enjoy your services

also?" she inquired.

“Sure, here you go. I didn't catch your name though," she asked.

“I'm Bella and it was nice meeting you, Jess. Maybe we could catch up sometime, after my spa

treatment of course." she winked at Jess.

“That would be nice Bella, it was wonderful meeting you too. Have a nice day." she bid her new friend

goodbye.

This expansion wasn't so bad an idea after all.

“Can I come in?" Nurse May asked.

“Of course you can," Miguel said as they stood in the patient he just operated on the room.

They stood monitoring his vitals to see whether the patient was recovering or not. The man opened his

eyes looking around his surrounding.

“ Where am I?" he asked his voice groggy.

“You just came out of a tough surgery, congratulations Mr Philly." Miguel smiled as the man's wife

entered the ward.

“Philly, you're awake thank goodness." she beamed in happiness as Miguel and May walked out.

“First-day well-spent aie?" May asked.

“You could say that my shift isn't over though. We've got more lives to save." he laughed with May.

“Speaking of which, I need your help, Dr Miguel, I've got a sickle cell patient whose heart is failing but

she's refusing surgery. I've drained fluid from her heart area twice but she still doesn't see the danger in

not getting surgery." Dr Theo said joining them.

“Can I see her as soon as possible?" he asked him.

“Of course you can." Dr Theo said.

Nurse May had been paged so she had to attend to that calling as Theo and Miguel hurried to Cara's

ward.

“ How long have you been waiting for me?" Jess asked her friend.

“Oh, I just got here a couple of minutes ago. No cause for alarm." Freya answered as they entered the

house.

Freya leaned back on the counter and looked up as her friend got two cans of diet coke from the fridge

and set a plate of cake on the table. She nudged her friend handing her drink over to her.

“What's on your mind?" Jess asked after a while.

“ I don't know if it's a coincidence or fate. I keep bumping into this really cute guy when I go out to clear

my head, sometimes have lunch." she found herself saying.

“And you like him?" Jess smiled.

“ He has a girlfriend..." she paused.

“Why do I feel like there's a but somewhere?" Jess raised her eyebrow.

“There is, she's rude and bossy, doesn't spend time with him. She's always going out with a friend." she

quoted his words.

“ Even at that, what if he doesn't feel the same way you do and is using you just to fill the void?" Jess

asked recalling her own experience.

“Maybe I'd like that. Noah is a real nice guy and it's his girlfriend's loss." she took a huge out of her

cake.

“Just like you and Zed," she stated.

“There's no us anymore Jess, he still likes Soraya. It's best they be together and move on. No, I won't

stop being his friend but I don't see us as an item. It would always be her over me. You girls let him be

with him he truly loves before he blames you for it in future." Freya advised.

“Oh, we no longer bug him on who he dates or doesn't date. It's his life and his actions and decisions

are his to make as well. So if he wants Soraya, the bitch, it's his choice." Jess put.

“How's the expansion going and how are you holding up after Miguel left?" Freya changed the topic.

“The expansion is going on faster than I imagined. In two or three days, it would be done. And for

Miguel, I've just come to terms that he was my destiny helper and nothing more. We weren't meant to

be a couple. So gradually, I am getting over him." she played with her fingers.

“You are a wonderful soul Jess, someone would love you for you. Just you wait." Freya assured.

“Thanks, Freya, I think I'm getting quite popular now. Since Jackie mentioned me on live tv, I've got

people approach me booking appointments in my saloon as soon as the expansion is done." she broke

the news.

“That's wonderful, and I'm genuinely happy for her too. I hope things don't change with her newfound

fame." Freya said.

“I hope so too, and Mase better notice her. She's been in love with him since music school days but

still, he's not noticed yet." Jess chuckled.

“He's in denial, cut the guy some slack." they burst out laughing.

“Kissing wasn't part of the deal," Lauren said pulling back after Keane kissed her.

“Maybe I don't want to follow the deal anymore," Keane smirked.

“ What, what do you mean?" she played dumb. She knew Keane felt the same way she did but she

wanted him to confess it to her himself and he was having a hard time doing that.

“I, er, um never mind." he scratched his head.

“I do mind." Lauren stared into his grey eyes.

“Lauren, just let it be okay? As we said from the beginning this is just a deal, fake relationship nothing

more or less," he said to her with his face turned to the wall.

“Okay, whatever you say," she mumbled.

“It's getting late, I gotta get home. Don't want my parents to worry about me. And oh, don't bother

picking me up. I want to drive I miss my car." she told him as she got her bag and then headed out

slamming his bedroom door.

Keane punched the wall in frustration. He was mad at himself for not being able to tell her how he felt

about her. He knew she liked him because she had already told him so.

Why is it so hard for me to just accept that I like her and tell her to her face?

Why? He buried his face in his pillow.

as she reached her doorstep.
