The substitute bride is a mute

Chapter 30

Chapter 30

In the bedroom, Jenna suddenly felt guilty when faced with Clark's question. "O-Of course... I've seen it. It's a family heirloom."

Clark had met countless people. From Jenna's hesitation, he knew that she didn't know.

Matthew, a sly fox, even hid it from his daughter. Yet, he sent Jenna to study medicine. He must have prepared her to inherit Blake Medical Group.

So, Clark didn't expose her.

Jenna quickly changed the subject. "Clark, I'm not very interested in managing the family business. I studied modern medicine, so I want to learn to be independent. Can you help me with something?"

Clark looked up from the book. "What's the matter?"

"I want to work in a hospital."

"Which hospital?"

"The Hippocrates Hospital," Jenna assessed Clark carefully, afraid of revealing her true intentions.

Hippocrates Hospital? A meaningful glint appeared in Clark's eyes.

"Alright." His cold voice echoed, a hint of intrigue detected if a person listened attentively.

During lunch, Jenna kept serving dishes to Clark.

Clark only thanked her, then picked up his cup to drink water, not touching his fork.

Judy observed this and shook her head silently.

Having spent some time with the Reid family, she knew Clark's eating habits. He wouldn't eat food that others picked for him. It looked like Jenna's efforts were in vain.

Yet, Judy wondered if Clark would make an exception for Jenna since they were closed.

Clark noticed how distracted Judy was out of the corner of his eye. He placed his bowl directly in front of her. "The Blake family's chef has good culinary skills. Judy, have some more."

Judy heard Clark's unexpectedly caring tone and came back to her senses. She saw Jenna's face turn livid across the table.

If looks could kill, Jenna's gaze would have killed Judy ten thousand times over.

Judy couldn't help but tremble. She strongly suspected that Clark was purposely stirring up Jenna's discontent by using her.

"I can't eat that much." She gestured, pushing the bowl back. "You eat more."

The bowl was placed awkwardly between them.

Meeting Clark's compelling gaze, Judy's hands felt heavy, unable to push any further.

After a while, she forced a smile and put the bowl back in front of her. "Thank you."

During lunch, Matthew subtly chatted about business dealings. Clark seemed to be in a good mood and even revealed some internal information about the project.

"Did Mr. Patel from the Securities Regulatory Commission say that?" Matthew's eyes lit up.

Clark stayed calm and collected as ever. He replied, "It was my assistant who overheard Mr. Patel during a negotiation last week.

"However, the financing risk is still significant. I heard that several companies, including the Wilson Group, are still observing."

"A financing project that the Wilson Group is eyeing must be promising," Matthew said with a smile. "Ava, it's such a good day. Pour us some wine." Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Looking at Matthew, Judy couldn't help but secretly worry for him.

Although she didn't understand much about business, what Clark said earlier was uncertain.

Clark used the name of a well-respected company to make the project sound more credible. Matthew blindly believed in the project's huge returns, despite no guarantee of success.

Considering the current huge losses in Blake Group, if Matthew invested in the project, the liabilities would reach their peak. Blake Group would likely go bankrupt if a small mistake were to happen.
