Charles said in a deep voice, “Mr. Shaw, the kidnapper ended his own life.”
Evan raised his head, looked at the blurred figure in his sight, and asked coldly, “Before I saved Yvette,
I handcuffed him to the ventilator shaft. How could he have done that?”
“The blades of the ventilation shaft fans were very sharp. He cut his wrist and carotid artery with them
and died from losing too much blood in just over two minutes.”
Although the police captain was very close to the kidnapper, the
kidnapper lost his breath as soon as he was carried downstairs as he was severely injured.
Evan knew the police could not be blamed for that because the people from Wolf Killer were psychos.
He asked again, “Did you guys discover the kidnapper’s identity? How did he sneak into Quilton?”
They had conducted a thorough inspection of Quilton and strictly
controlled all the main access roads of Quilton before. It was supposed to be difficult for the members
of Wolf Killer to get in.
Charles coughed lightly and reported, “The higher–ups issued an order to cancel the inspection of
traffic routes at noon today. First, it has delayed Quilton’s economy, and second, it wasted too many
manpower and
resources.”
Evan’s face darkened, and he asked, “Why don’t I know about this?”
“Perhaps it’s because your rank is not high enough, Mr. Shaw.”
Charles did not know Evan’s real identity.
Hence, in his opinion, any order issued by the higher–ups did not need the approval of a police
captain.
Evan could understand why the higher–ups did so.

They had been checking for days and found some suspicious cars. However, two of the cars had

So far, they only found one burnt–out vehicle, and the others had escaped.

would be no different from finding a needle in a haystack.
Evan shook his head and said, “Stop the investigation. I’ll send you a document when I get better. You
guys can return to your original units for the time being. Stand by.”
He put so much effort into investigating the small fries before because he did not catch the big fish of
Wolf Killer. Thus, he knew nothing about the organization.
However, with the core messages delivered by Charlie, he did not need to waste too much of his time
and effort anymore.
Although Charles did not know Evan’s plans, he obeyed and answered, “Yes, Mr. Shaw. Have a good
rest, and we will wait for your news.”
After saying that, he left.
Evan closed his eyes and took a deep breath to relieve the discomfort caused by the headache.
He did not know when the adverse symptoms of his body would be relieved and whether it would delay
his succeeding actions.

“Can I transfer to another hospital now?”
“You can. But don’t move around and cooperate with the medical staff.” After saying that, Cecilia asked,
“Evan, which hospital do you want to transfer to? Isn’t the hospital of Forte Group good?”
Medical care was the major industry of Forte Group, so both doctors and equipment were among the
best in Quilton. Also, safety was guaranteed. Evan gazed out of the window at the dark sky and looked
in the direction of Acocester.
“I want to transfer to the military hospital in Acocester,” he said.
The next main battlefield of Wolf Killer would be in Acocester. Hence, he thought to go there early for
arrangements.
“Evan, it’s not suitable for you to travel a long distance with your current physical condition. You can go
back to Acocester in three days.”
Not only did Cecilia worry about Evan’s health, but she was worried something would happen to Evan
on his way to Acocester.
If something happened, Evan could not save himself because he had severe internal injuries.
“Ceci, I can’t recuperate in peace if I stay in Quilton. It’s better for me to go back to Acocester.”
Hearing Evan’s words, Cecilia stopped persuading him.
“Evan, you’re in poor health now. You must at least rest for a day at the hospital of Forte Group before
transferring to another hospital the morning after tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll ask Grandma Elaine to arrange for a helicopter to pick you up so your safety will be more
guaranteed.”
Evan was well aware of his physical condition and did not refuse.

Then, she leaned over to hug Yvette gently and caressed her head. “Everything is fine now. Don’t be
afraid,” she comforted.
Yvette smelled the familiar scent of gardenia perfume and confirmed that she was alive, as were her
parents.
Her pounding heart gradually calmed down.
“Mom, I’m fine. I had a nightmare just now and couldn’t react for a while.”
Selene got up, brushed away the strand of hair on Yvette’s face, and said

sadly, “How can you not have to have a nightmare after encountering such a terrible thing? What a
