Chapter 196 Pain in the Chest
Chapter 196 Pain in the Chest
"By the way, what did you ask me here for?"
William asked coolly when Andrew finished pouring out his grievances.
"For something serious."
Andrew put on a grim look.
A few days ago, he went abroad on a business trip and bumped into a woman in Chinatown. She
looked very familiar.
"I stopped her. But she ran away the moment she saw me."
Andrew recalled. If she hadn't run away, he might not have felt strange.
But the woman ran so fast that Andrew knew something was wrong.
He just had a hunch.
"It took me a lot of effort to block her in an alley."
Andrew stared at William, who was dispassionate, and carried on.
"Guess who she is?"
But he got no reply.
Since William did not say a word, Andrew got bored. He had created the suspense and all he needed Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
was a question.
"Who is she?"
William asked, knowing what was on his mind.
Andrew was lost for words.
William was so rigid! So boring!
Having lost the fun, Andrew explained.
"You told me that the day Jane went to see Lucas, he tried to kill himself."
He didn't die because of the kidnappers and later had a car accident.
The person behind it must be really powerful and smart to come up with such a complicated plot.
When the police went to Lucas's home, it was empty. His neighbor said that he had moved away.
So strange!
"She's Lucas's sister."
Recalling the experience, Andrew felt embarrassed.
"Then why did she run away?"
This was a clue. William said frowningly, after pondering for a moment, "Why was she there?"
"She's become a prostitute."
Andrew covered his face with his hands. It was a long story.
Before Lucas died, he called his family. His sister knew she would be in serious trouble, so she ran
away with her parents.
They fled to the country without legal documents. As an illegal migrant who didn't speak the language,
she ended up becoming a prostitute.
"She thought I was a police officer, who would catch her and send her back home."
Andrew touched his face, thinking it must be because he looked like a good man, someone who would
never go to such a place.
He was proud of himself.
"Maybe it's because you're so good-looking that she thought you were a male prostitute."
William was sharp and outspoken.
Andrew was so surprised that he almost fell to the ground.
He put his hands on his chest and said, "You hurt my feelings. My chest aches so much!"
William was speechless.
With such good acting, Andrew should come to the Duncan Group. He would be an excellent
Hollywood actor and even win an Oscar!
Andrew stopped joking and turned serious the next second.
"I asked her if Lucas said anything before his death."
If he did tell his family, he must have known his situation. That could explain why he called Jane and
tried to strike a deal.
"He didn't," said William.
Andrew's story didn't have any added information to William.
It only proved Lucas didn't die by accident. He had long known about this.
"How did you know?"
Andrew's eyes widened. William had already known it before he could say anything.
"The more one knows, the more dangerous he is."
William told the truth. Lucas was from a poor family. He kidnapped Jane because he wanted a better
life.
Lucas was a good son and a good brother. Telling his family would only endanger them.
Andrew's head drooped. He was amazed.
William was so sophisticated that Andrew couldn't hold a handle to him.
"Dude, there is one thing that I've long wanted to ask you."
He took a deep breath and looked at William.
"Since you've kept it to yourself for so long, why bother to ask now?"
After all, it wouldn't kill him.
William didn't plan to answer his question.
Andrew fell silent. He shouldn't have beat around the bush.
He decided to cut to the chase. "Do you love Jane?"
They had been married for six years, during which William didn't seem to care about her. How could he
fall in love in just two months?
He didn't think it was because Jane blocked the knife for William.
William seldom cared about anyone. He only threw money at people.
But judging from his attitude to Jane, Andrew could tell William cared about her.
If he just pretended to be nice to her, he must be so good at acting that he should get an Oscar.
"Why do you ask? She is my wife."
As Andrew was so curious, William decided to answer his question.
But Andrew only got more confused. Wasn't Jane his wife before? She always was.
"She's worth it."
After trying to explain patiently to Andrew, William found it difficult to communicate with such a
dimwitted man. They were not on the same page.
"It doesn't matter whether I love her or not. She is my wife."
With that, William went straight to the hall. He had to go back to Jane. She did not throw up in the
morning. But was she alright now?
Andrew only realized what William meant after a long time.
Damn it! William was showing off his happy marriage!
Jane had just come out of the bathroom when William arrived. She threw up later today.
Fortunately, the club provided sweet, preserved fruit. Jane got herself a whole bowl of it.
"Are you alright?"
When William came over, Pearl became gossipy.
"Janie is not good. She just threw up,"
Pearl said quickly. She knew Jane would say she was fine in case William worried about her.
Being a pregnant mother was already hard and William should know that.
Jane should tell him how hard it was to be pregnant. She shouldn't bottle it all up.
"You like that fruit?"
William left and took out a small basket from the car. He had got Jane some snacks.
He just forgot about it when he saw Andrew.
In the basket, there was some fresh fruit with green leaves.
"I'll wash it."
He didn't wash it just to keep it fresh.
Pearl took it and left, giving the couple some time and space.
She went to the kitchen and saw Sophia and Daisy confronting each other.
What was going on?
Fifteen minutes ago, Daisy called Pearl, saying she wanted to talk with her about their collaboration.
In that call, Daisy overheard Pearl calling Sophia to have dessert.
Daisy was not far away from here. So, she rushed to the club.
The club was in the suburbs. Pearl guessed Daisy came here because she knew Andrew and Sophia
were here.
