Trapped in Love

Chapter 18

Chapter 18 Here Comes Mr. Jordan

"Abort it! It's revolting that you're pregnant with my child!"

Caroline's ears were suddenly filled with a man's angry outburst.

She spun around and witnessed a distraught woman clutching onto a man's clothes, tears streaming down her face. "Do you understand how harmful an abortion is to my body? How could you be so heartless?"

"Your body is not my concern!"

Upon hearing those words, Caroline's mind flashed back to Evan's indifferent expression. She realized she was merely an object to fulfill his desires. He might not readily accept the baby growing inside her.

Fearful of confronting the reality she had just heard, Caroline promptly switched off her phone. She needed to find a way to gauge his reaction first.

After placing the report in her bag, she anxiously made her way towards the ward.

When she arrived at Katie's ward, she composed herself before entering.

When she arrived at Katie's ward, she composed herself before entering.

Katie was in the midst of eating an apple. Upon seeing Caroline, she immediately broke into a smile. "Carol, there you are."Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

Caroline sat down beside Katie's bed. "Mom, I just returned from a business trip. You're looking well."

Katie chuckled. "Doctor Wilson took excellent care of me while you were away."

However, Caroline's smile turned slightly bitter. "Mom, Doctor Wilson must be busy. Let's not bother him unless it's absolutely necessary..."

"I'm not busy." Before she could finish her sentence, a gentle voice interrupted from the ward door.

Caroline quickly looked up. However, she suppressed her smile slightly.

She stood up and expressed her gratitude. "Doctor Wilson, thank you for looking after my mother."

Scott replied, "No need to be so formal."

Yet Scott's words sparked wild thoughts in Katie's mind.

Katie felt that her daughter was old enough to be married, so she couldn't help but speak with a touch of concern. "Carol, if you're free at noon, treat him to lunch."

Caroline was about to decline, but Scott interjected, "Well, I'll accept your invitation."

Caught off guard, Caroline gave her mother a reproachful look. "Mom, this noon..."

"Carol, Doctor Wilson took such good care of me when you were away. We mustn't forget his kindness."

However, Caroline didn't dare to agree. After all, Evan had informed her that Reuben would come to pick her up at noon.

Glancing at her watch, she tactfully declined. "Doctor Wilson, I need to return to the company to attend to some work at noon. If you're free now, I can buy you coffee."

Scott nodded. "Sure."

In a cafe near the hospital entrance, Caroline ordered him a cup of coffee, while she opted for a glass of lemonade, mindful of her pregnancy. As the waiter left, she looked at him apologetically. "Doctor Wilson, my mom may have said something strange. Please don't take it to heart."

Scott reassured her, "It's okay. It's understandable for her to think that way. After all, you need someone to take care of you."

She took a sip of water from the glass on the table, uncertain if there was any underlying meaning in his words. Nevertheless, she needed to clarify her stance.

Pursing her lips, she spoke up. "Doctor Wilson, right now, I just want to focus on my work. I don't really want to dwell on romantic relationships."

Looking directly into his eyes, she emphasized her point. His handsome and gentle face revealed a clear sense of disappointment.

After a brief pause, Scott inquired, "Have you never considered having someone to share your burdens?"

Caroline gave a straightforward response. "Never."

In the past, she had been Evan's mistress, feeling undeserving of an exceptional and wonderful man like him due to her perceived unworthiness. But now, with a child, even if Evan didn't want her, she couldn't ruin Scott's future.

Scott smiled bitterly. "I understand. But if you ever face difficulties, you must let me know. Don't bear it all on your own, okay?"

Unable to meet his gaze, she lowered her head. "I can handle it alone."

Subsequently, she stood up. "Let's go back. I want to spend more time with my mother."

Scott nodded, and after Caroline settled the bill, they left the cafe together. However, she was preoccupied, and as she walked out, she accidentally sprained her leg on the stairs, nearly falling.

Reacting swiftly, Scott supported her and asked anxiously, "Are you alright?"

The intense pain around her ankle caused her delicate features to furrow tightly. She quickly pushed him away, creating some distance between them. "I'm fine. I can walk."

Yet, after taking just a couple of steps, she couldn't help but let out a groan.

Scott's face darkened. He stepped forward and lifted her up. "Stop trying to act tough if you don't want to worsen your injury."

With that, he picked her up and carried her hurriedly toward the hospital.

Coincidentally, Evan, who was seated in his car, witnessed the scene unfold before him.

A cold expression crept over his face, and his eyes simmering with boiling anger.

Meanwhile, Reuben, sitting in the driver's seat, felt overwhelmed with trepidation upon seeing Evan's reaction.

As soon as he woke up in the morning, Evan had hurriedly made his way toward the hospital, intending to wait at the entrance for Caroline to emerge so they could go to the company together. However, he unexpectedly stumbled upon the sight before him.

Reuben couldn't help but worry about Caroline. Their relationship had only recently begun to improve...

"Go and bring her here!" Evan's voice was frigid.

Reuben swiftly complied, getting out of the car and chasing after Scott, blocking their path.

A sense of foreboding washed over Caroline when she spotted Reuben. She knew something unpleasant was about to occur.

Nevertheless, Scott remained composed. "Step aside. She has sprained her leg and requires immediate medical attention."

Reuben ignored him and turned his attention to Caroline and announced to her, "Ms. Shenton, Mr. Jordan is here."

Caroline's face turned instantly pale.

As feared, the very thing she dreaded was unfolding before her eyes.

She immediately struggled to get down. "Doctor Wilson, please put me down."

Scott looked at Caroline, still cradled in his arms, with concern. Though unaware of the details, he gently set her down.

As her right leg touched the ground, she drew in a sharp breath, feeling the pain.

Suppressing her discomfort, she looked up at Scott. "Doctor Wilson, please take care of my mother."

Scott nodded, watching her limp away.

Once she had distanced herself, he gazed at the Maybach parked by the hospital entrance.
