Are you sure you want to join?
Marco gazed out the window where the sky had begun to turn orange as the sun started to set. He then looked at the watch on his wrist. Initially, Marco planned to go home briefly to meet Letta, but it turned out that his schedule truly didn’t allow him to meet his wife.
“Isn’t it too early to have dinner with a client, even though it’s still too early?” Marco said, looking at Pedro, who only responded to his gaze through the reflection in the rearview mirror.
“Maybe he just wants you to meet him, maybe enjoy some dessert or coffee,” Pedro said, also unsure of how to respond. It made Marco smile.
“Since when do I want to eat sweet things like that?” Marco said, making Pedro fall silent because his appointment with Mr. Adam was too early compared to the initial plan.
“Actually, what project is he going to show me?” Marco asked again.
“Well, it seems he wants to get involved with our project in Chicago because it’s been leaked. So, the businessmen around you are starting to flock to join the collaboration,” Pedro said, making Marco once again smile dismissively, as if the businessmen around him were just leeches wanting to suck his blood.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
“They’re all the same,” Marco said, but he couldn’t help but meet Mr. Adam. Until they finally arrived at a five-star hotel to meet. Marco was promptly greeted and escorted to the table where Mr. Adam was waiting, while Pedro waited at another table with the guards who were in the car.
“Sorry, I’m a little late,” Marco said, making Mr. Adam and a woman beside him stand and nod.
“It’s alright, I myself just arrived 5 minutes ago,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco smile politely at him.
“Sorry, we were supposed to meet alone, but it seems my daughter here insisted on coming. I don’t know what got into her, she wants to take part in this business conversation,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco look at a woman in a pink dress next to him. Her face looked calm, and she returned Marco’s gaze with her usual composure, making Marco just smile.
“That’s alright. It’s a good start to become an heir to the company you own,” Marco said, making Mr. Adam just smile.
“Then, let me introduce her, Lusi. And Lusi, this is Mr. Jovanka,” Mr. Adam said, and they both shook hands to introduce themselves before sitting back in their seats.
“I apologize for having to expedite our meeting because afterward, I have to fly to take care of my company in Singapore. Forgive me, it’s not that I’m exaggerating, because I know you’re busier than I am, but I ask for your understanding,” Mr. Adam said with a chuckle at the end of his sentence, making Marco nod with a thin smile.
“It’s okay. As entrepreneurs, we never know when our schedules will be busy or free. So, this is normal, just relax,” Marco said.
“By the way, I heard you are building a mega project in Chicago, and it seems it accidentally leaked to external parties,” Mr. Adam said, seemingly getting straight to the heart of the conversation, making Marco look at him with a flat gaze.
“Yeah, thanks to someone’s antics, it seems my project has made other rulers feel uncomfortable,” Marco said, making Mr. Adam shake his head. Some waiters came and placed several dishes in front of them. Marco just looked at them. It turned out Pedro’s guess was right; they weren’t going to have dinner, but to taste the sweet dishes now before them.
“Of course not. How could we feel uncomfortable? It’s like an opportunity for us to participate in collaborating with a big company like yours, including myself,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco once again show his poker face, as if he knew the intention and purpose.
“Well, is that why you invited me to meet?” Marco asked again, making Mr. Adam nod.
“Yes, you’re right. And I also know that you are smart and understand the purpose of our meeting. You know, don’t you, that our company has never disappointed. Although it can’t be compared to the assets you own, but you also know the history of our success,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco fall silent. Of course, Marco also knew that the companies under him currently had never had a downside. It made Marco think that it might not be a bad idea for Mr. Adam to enter into his project. Marco finally smiled.
“Are you sure you want to join?” Marco asked, making Mr. Adam nod, straightening his posture. He immediately put on a serious expression.
“Sure, if you don’t mind, I’ll join in taking over that project. I have a feeling that your project in Chicago is bound to succeed, just like the others,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco smile. Marco then picked up the glass of water in front of him and took a sip.
“Aren’t you having any wine?” Mr. Adam asked, making Marco smile.
“For now, I’ve stopped. I just need plain water,” Marco replied. Marco immediately thought of Letta. Because, for now, it seemed Marco would refrain from touching alcohol just to make Letta feel comfortable.
“Ah yes, indeed, sometimes we have to avoid wine for a while, and plain water is healthier,” Mr. Adam said, finally steering the conversation to the point. Mister Adam wanted to join Marco’s project, and Marco seemed to welcome Mr. Adam’s intention. For Marco, the more people benefiting from joining, the better, he thought. Marco observed Mr. Adam, who occasionally picked at the snacks in front of him, but Marco remained silent, occasionally sipping water. For some reason, he still didn’t quite fancy sweet foods until their conversation concluded.
“In that case, we’ll have our next meeting, as I have to leave soon as well,” Marco said.
“Then, what are your plans next? Sorry I couldn’t invite you to dinner directly,” Mr. Adam said, making Marco shake his head.
“It’s alright. Besides, I have to head to the club,” Marco said, making Mr. Adam nod.
“Ah, yes, I know one of the biggest clubs in the city center, which of course is yours. Coincidentally, Lusi is also going there. Didn’t you mention you were going to meet your friends there? How about you go along with Mr. Jovanka, as you know time is chasing your father, rather than having to be driven by the chauffeur,” Mr. Adam’s words made Marco raise an eyebrow. He couldn’t quite fathom his intentions this time, so Marco finally shifted his gaze to Lusi, who was looking at him with a blank expression.
“It’s alright, I can use an online taxi,” Lusi said, leaving Marco slightly unable to guess her answer. Marco thought she would agree to her father’s request.
“Well, you are that kind of child. Your father is always so worried about you. How do you dare to always use public transport? Alright then, wait in the lobby after the chauffeur drops me off, then he will come back to pick you up,” Mr. Adam said, making Lusi about to respond, but Marco immediately stood up from his seat.
“It’s alright, we’re going in the same direction anyway. We can go together,” Marco said, making Lusi fall silent, and Mr. Adam immediately displayed his broad smile.
“See, isn’t Mr. Jovanka very kind-hearted? So never refuse his offer,” Mr. Adam said, making Lusi look at her father with a raised eyebrow. It seemed that even Lusi didn’t like the idea from her father, thought Marco, as they finally bid farewell and escorted Mr. Adam first to leave with his private chauffeur. Meanwhile, Marco and Lusi remained silent in front of the restaurant.
