Where are you?
Marco remained silent, gazing blankly at his desk, not even touching the files and emails he should have been working on, making Pedro hesitant to disturb his boss.
“How far have you gone in searching for her?” Marco asked without looking at Pedro.
“We have searched in the nearby cities, but there’s been no result as Miss Letta left no trace at all,” Pedro replied, as the team he had deployed to find Letta was still struggling to locate her.
“Haven’t you found any trace of her at all?” Marco asked again, causing Pedro to fall silent once more.
“One of our team members found a trace along the river, but we still couldn’t find her because of the heavy rain last night, causing the river to overflow and wash away any trace of Miss Letta,” Pedro said, causing Marco to then gaze sharply in his direction.
“Come on, Pedro, you’ve never failed in any task I’ve given you before. So, are you going to fail just because of that woman? I want her found,” Marco said with his cold aura, making Pedro nod before leaving the room. Meanwhile, Marco clenched his fist. It had been two days since he started looking for Letta, but there was still no news of her whereabouts. Right now, Marco was feeling increasingly frustrated.
Until finally, the door to his office opened again, and he saw Helena walking quickly towards him, making Marco roughly rub his face.
“I’ve heard everything,” Helena said, making Marco choose to look away.
“I don’t want to argue, so can you talk about this some other time, Mom?” Marco said again, making Helena look at him with raised eyebrows.
“Why would you hide something as big as this? I know that woman is no longer carrying your flesh and blood. Then why did you hide it? Shouldn’t you have said right away at the hospital that the descendant of Jovanka was no longer in her womb?” Helena said again, making Marco stand up from his seat.
“This is my business, Mom. So it’s better for you not to meddle in this anymore. This is between me and that woman,” Marco said, making Helena look at him with a puzzled expression.
“What’s actually happening to you? Why just because of that woman did you decide to end things with Arabella? Wasn’t that a good thing? You lost the reason to hold onto your marriage and that woman, so we can continue our plan for you to marry Arabella,” Helena said, making Marco shake his head.
“That can’t happen,” Marco said, making Helena look at him with a questioning gaze.
“What can’t happen? Why do you still want to keep that woman and let go of someone as good as Arabella?” Helena asked.
“Mommy won’t understand what I feel. I know what I should do, so don’t force me. I have also told Arabella, if she deserves a better man than me. I don’t want to hold on to Arabella for too long,” Marco said, leaving Helena speechless. Helena truly didn’t understand what Marco wanted at this moment. “Do you love her?” Helena suddenly asked, causing Marco to pause. Marco fell silent before turning to look at his mommy.
“It has nothing to do with the feelings I currently have. So I will take care of my own affairs, so mommy doesn’t need to worry. I know what I’m doing, it’s better if you go home now,” Marco said, surprising Helena that Marco would become so cold towards her just because of that woman.
In the beginning, Marco had already assured that he only needed his flesh and blood. So, why now, when he couldn’t have that flesh and blood anymore, was Marco still insistent on holding onto Letta?
“You still want to find that woman even after she ran away from you. Isn’t that a sign that she’s tired of all the ties with you? It’s better if you let go of that woman. Besides, she means nothing to you,” Helena said, before turning and leaving Marco standing, gazing towards the large window of his high-rise building. Marco fell silent.
Somehow, he didn’t know what he wanted at this moment, but Marco was certain that he couldn’t let go of Letta. Marco didn’t want to see her far from him, whether it was because of the loss that Letta had etched on his heart due to the loss of their unborn child or for some other reason that made Marco still unable to guess what was currently troubling his heart and mind.
For two days, Letta was out of his reach, making it truly difficult for Marco to focus on anything he had to do. His focus was solely on finding Letta, until the woman truly returned. Even closing his eyes felt difficult for Marco. He was disturbed by Letta’s presence that he still didn’t understand until now.
Marco then turned and walked quickly out of his office. He couldn’t stay still like this, relying on his subordinates who still couldn’t provide any information on Letta’s whereabouts. He would take matters into his own hands and search for the woman who had made his life so chaotic.
Several guards greeted Marco as he arrived in front of his tall building. After that, he got into his luxurious car and immediately accelerated. Although Marco didn’t know where he should go to find Letta, he kept driving without direction or purpose.
All that was on Marco’s mind was how Letta used to look at him with a blank expression, her empty gaze, and occasionally a look filled with hatred directed at him. Now, as he pictured it in his mind, Marco somehow felt his chest getting tighter. But all that seemed to lift as he remembered the last night he spent with Letta, causing Marco to repeatedly hit the steering wheel in his grip.
“Where are you really, Letta?” Marco murmured, now only able to utter Letta’s name with his mouth without being able to see the woman who Marco thought would always be under his watch.
