Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 136

Chapter 136

With a hint of smile in Brett's eyes, they were deep and bright in their subtlety.

Izabella turned her head to continue looking out of the window, feeling Brett's gaze on her from the corner of her eyes. Even though his gaze was light, it was filled with a dominant pressure, like an arrow piercing her heart.

Izabella said, "I wonder if it will snow this year."

"It's still summer, too early for that."

R City rarely had snow; it wasn't too hot in summer and not too cold in winter. The last time it snowed was three years ago; it even made the news.

Izabella was sensitive to the cold. In winter, her hands and feet were cold, but she liked watching the snow.

"Do you like snow?"

After pondering for a while, Izabella replied, "I wouldn't say I really like it, but it's rare here, and people tend to be drawn to rare things."

"This winter, we can go to the north; there's a lot of snow there. We can see the snowy landscapes."

The music in the car was filled with a woman's sentimental voice, whispering words of love: I'm a swallow from the south, why am I in love with the coldness from the north?

Izabella followed the lyrics and said, "I like snow, but I can't stand the cold, so you should take Kaley instead."

She brought up Kaley, knowing full well it would throw a wrench into the pleasant atmosphere.

Now, even the driver could feel the tension in the air.

The car drove into a gentle mountain road, accompanied only by a row of lonely streetlights. The lights were left on in the villa.

Jennifer hadn't gone to bed yet. As soon as she heard the car engine outside, she opened the door and saw Izabella getting out of the car.

"Miss, you and President Windham are back," she said.

"Yeah."

"Are you hungry? Do you need to eat something?" Jennifer had made something simple after receiving a text message in the afternoon, knowing they would be dining out.

Izabella shook her head, "No need."

Despite standing so close to each other, Jennifer noticed that Brett and Izabella seemed very distant from each other. Was this a case of being together but disconnected?

Jennifer closed the door after they went inside.

It was much warmer in the room. Izabella took off her coat, threw it on the couch, and returned to the bedroom to take a bath and change into comfortable pajamas.

Brett had had quite a few drinks tonight, but the effect of the alcohol was not shown. He had a steady gait and clear speech, but when he drank, he became even quieter, and his eyes extra bright - the more intoxicated, the brighter they got.

Brett took his phone out of his pocket. As soon as he connected to the internet, several messages popped up.

Liam was a workaholic. Nine out of ten messages were work-related, and one asked if Brett was available.

Brett checked the messages while rubbing his temples. They were all about Starry Brilliance Island. He quickly sent Liam a reply.

"I've handed over Starry Brilliance Island to Izabella. She'll take full responsibility from now on. Work with her." Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Liam sent a question mark in response, but Brett didn't reply further. Liam sent a message saying he understood.

Izabella saw the messages from Liam after she finished bathing. The phone screen was too small to see the content clearly, so she opened her laptop and saw several plans.

Regarding the choice of partner companies, Izabella browsed through the list but didn't see the Felton Group.

She took a deep breath, realizing that the Felton Group wasn't on Windham Group's list, and she had to plan for the long run.

After finishing reading the files, Izabella closed her computer and sent Liam a message, "Rest early and we'll discuss it at work tomorrow."

Liam texted back: Cool.

Izabella took out a large handful of pills from the drawer and swallowed them all at once, She used to be so afraid of taking medicine, but now she can already swallow it in one gulp, and she even got used to the bitterness in her throat. After taking the medicine, she felt drowsy.

When Brett came into the room after taking a shower, he sat on the bed and stroked Izabella's hair.

Recalling how Izabella had told him at the restaurant that she regretted forcing him to marry her, his heart clenched. If they hadn't married, he would probably be with Kaley now, and Izabella would be with someone else. But there were no what-ifs. They were married, and she would be his forever.

Being drunk, Brett's emotions were a bit out of control. He ultimately pressed Izabella under him and placed his arm around her neck.

Fully aware that escaping was futile, Izabella pushed against his chest, saying, "Take precautions, I don't want to take birth control pills."
