Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 199

Chapter 199

The stomach was twisted with cancer cells. Brett stared silently at the screen, feeling like the world went silent for a moment.

"That's Izabella's stomach?"

"Mr. Windham, if you still don't believe this, and still think the medical records are fake and the images are fabricated, then just ask yourself: Have you ever seen Ms. Salotti in so much stomach pain that she couldn't sleep all night?"

"Ever seen her throwing up blood?!"

"Ever seen her pass out from stomach pain and get sent to the hospital?!"

"Regular stomach problems don't cause bloody vomiting!"

Each question from the nurse was like a bomb thrown into Brett's head, exploding into chaos. The situation was spiraling out of control, and he couldn't find the words to argue. His stupefied expression suddenly turned into panic.

No matter how much he wanted to doubt it, he knew that things were nothing like he had thought. Izabella really had stomach cancer.

She had never lied to him from the beginning.

Brett suddenly remembered what Izabella had said that night, leaning against him.

—"Brett, I'm dying."

—"I have stomach cancer and probably won't live another year."

—"What if I told you I never lied to you from the start? Brett, you're really smart, never believing in me from beginning to end. You can just think that way for the rest of your life."

—"Could you please go back to Quiet Forest Estates and get my medicine? It's the thing that could save my life." Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

The pills he thought were fake had already been thrown away by Jennifer, never expecting that they were actually Izabella's life-saving medicine.

"If you still don't believe all this, then when will you stop deceiving yourself? Are you really going to believe only when she's at death's door? By then, it'll truly be too late for regrets," the nurse's words, hoarse from exhaustion, pierced Brett's heart like knives.

Brett turned to Izabella, took a deep breath, and easily freed himself. He looked at Izabella's pale, lifeless face. He couldn't hold himself upright anymore and fell forward, dropping to his knees.

Feeling a sharp pain in his knee, Brett finally came to his senses. He gently lifted her sleeve and stared at her fingers, pupils constricting, his heart aching.

In his memory, Izabella's hand was fair-skinned and slender, dancing gracefully on piano strings, her fingertips adorned with soft pink. But now, her hands were wrapped in gauze, and her fingertips were filled with tiny needle holes.

On the ground and the operating table, there were still traces of dried blood.

Her hands were already injured so badly, Brett didn't dare lift her shirt further. Thinking about the doctor's mention of hundreds of injuries, he was even more afraid to get any closer.

What had he done to make Izabella suffer such brutal injuries?

"Izabella, can you wake up? I promise I'll never treat you like that again."

"I didn't know you had stomach cancer. I thought you were lying to me."

"If you wake up, I won't tie you up anymore, and I won't force you to have children."

"As long as you wake up, I'm willing to spend my whole life making up for the past sixteen years of your misplaced love." Brett's trembling hand grabbed the edge of the bed, pleading desperately for Izabella to open her eyes.

He hated deception, but now he wished everyone was lying to him.

He was so full of himself, thinking he could protect both of them at the same time. He arrogantly thought that as long as he didn't care about Izabella and got Kaley back first, he could sort things out.
