Chapter 57
Chapter 57
Izabella wanted to run away, but where could she go?
The whole R City was under Brett's control. She probably wouldn't even have time to get into a car before she got tied up and sent back with an aftermath she couldn't afford.
And besides... she also has an elder brother.
Brett knew what she was most afraid of. As long as he caught her weak point, she would be like a kite in his hand; no matter how high or far she flew, he could pull her back with just a tug.
Izabella couldn't eat because she was worried, but her stomach couldn't take it anymore, so she cooked two eggs and took them to her bedroom to eat.
The egg went from boiling hot to ice cold, and she waited from daylight to late night. Finally, there was the sound of a car downstairs.
A beam of light gradually brightened the dark night. Izabella sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze shifting from the window to the pile of broken glass on the floor. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
She realized something, and swept the glass shards carefully into the trash bin.
As soon as Brett entered, he saw Izabella squatting on the floor, throwing a piece of glass into the trash can. His pupils shrank, and the anger he had suppressed on the way now erupted uncontrollably. It wasn't for any other reason, but because Izabella had smashed their wedding photo.
"What did you do to Kaley today?"
Izabella felt a little regretful. Although she had guessed that Kaley wouldn't die easily, she didn't expect her to be fine so quickly.
Look, as soon as Kaley was fine, this man came to question her. Izabella thought that after the questioning, it would be time for the "punishment."
Once, she had used a marriage contract to keep Brett by her side. But now, that marriage certificate had become her shackle.
"Didn't Kaley tell you everything at the hospital? Do I need to repeat it?"
"So you admit it." Brett's expression was as cold and indifferent as the dark night outside.
Izabella felt the temperature drop again, which made her thoughts confused and her actions slow. She watched Brett walking step by step closer to her, lips moving, "Does it matter if I admit it? You never believed me, just like when you came in you didn’t ask about what Kaley told me."
"Kaley just came out of the emergency room, and she swallowed those sleeping pills because of you."
"It's a shame she didn't die." Izabella accidentally said her true thoughts.
Death is undoubtedly the cruelest curse for someone who just came out of the emergency room.
Brett's expression turned fierce and he instantly slapped Izabella.
Izabella rolled off the bed, her palm pressed down on a piece of glass shard. Her hand hurt, but her heart was even more bitter.
The sharp glass shard pierced directly into the flesh of her palm, one of the most painful places on the human body. With her head down, Izabella stared at her bloody right hand in the dim light.
A few drops of blood fell to the ground, not from her hand. Izabella raised her clean left hand to touch her mouth and nose, then quickly wiped it clean.
"Did I force her... did I force her to take the sleeping pills?"
"If it wasn't for you insulting her, verbally abusing and humiliating her, would she be so desperate?" Brett squinted as he looked at Izabella's figure. She had her back turned towards him, and was hunched over with her head down and her shoulders trembling. He couldn't tell what she was doing,.
Izabella sniffed and then suppressed the blood in her throat, whispering, "She called me a cheap woman, said I deserved it, that my father should die..."
"Are you saying you're not?" Brett interrupted her sarcastically before she could finish.
Izabella stiffened, the sentence lingering in her head.
Aren't you?
Izabella's eyes filled with tears. By the time she came to her senses, Brett was already standing in front of her.
"What part of which she said was wrong, Izabella?"
