Chapter 369
Chapter 369
How great would it be if Emmett was just an average man? Even if he was broke and not so good- looking, that would have been all okay!
But no, he had to be Mr. Exceptional, the unreachable height she has been chasing but couldn’t achieve.
“I’m going to ask you one more time. Where are you? Clara, stop playing games. I’m coming to get you.” Emmett’s voice came over the phone, softer then, almost pleading. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
That was the first time Clara had ever heard him speak like that!
“I… I’m not telling you where I am!”
A few seconds of silence followed.
Then Emmett roared, “Tell me now! Is Elio with you? I swear, I’ll kill him!”
Clara gritted her teeth, each word stinging, “I won’t let you hurt Elio! Emmett, it’s over between us. Let’s part on good terms. I don’t want to see you again, nor will I look for you! Your mother doesn’t like me; let her find someone she does.”
Emmett paused, hastily asking, “My mother? Did she pressure you? Tell me. I can cut her off. I’d do anything for you!”
“She didn’t pressure me.”
“Then why? Why?” Emmett’s voice was nearly breaking, “I refuse to believe you have no feelings for me. You clearly… you clearly felt something when you were in my arms!”
“And what kind of feelings are those? Nothing but forced acceptance! It could be anyone, not just you. And I’d probably still pretend to enjoy it…”
“You… Clara, you’re bold. I see you clearly now! You want to be with Elio, huh? I’m telling you. I won’t let that happen!”
With that, Emmett hung up, as if afraid to hear her voice again.
Clara stared at her phone, dumbfounded.
Leah’s hearty laughter came through the other phone, “Good job! It’s clear Emmett’s really fallen for you. What a pity you’re from two different worlds. It wasn’t meant to be. Now look, you’re both heartbroken!”
“Enough! I did what you asked. Now will you release my children?”
“Relax, relax. The kids are with me now. I’m their mother; why would I let them get hurt? Right?” Leah laughed, then hung up.
Clara collapsed backward, passing out. Her hand still clutched the corner of her dress.
“Emmett… Emmett… I’m sorry.”
Elio panicked and shouted, “Quick! Get a doctor. She’s pregnant. We can’t have any accidents!”
In a warehouse on the outskirts.
Two small figures huddled in a corner, and with a guard every two meters outside, there was no chance for them to escape.
“Aiden, what should we do?”
Aiden frowned, hugging Alex, “Don’t be scared. Mom and Dad will come for us.”
“They… they won’t hurt us, will they?” Alex was on the verge of breaking down, “I’m so hungry. I want something to eat.”
“Wait here!”
Aiden gently patted his shoulder, then stood up and called out, “Excuse me, is anyone there? My little brother’s hungry. Could you give us something to
eat?”
