Chapter 72 Someone impregnates Opula
“She is two weeks pregnant,” the doctor said, staring at Ruby through tiny pair of glasses, and beginning to drag his smiles expecting Fanny to explode in happiness soon.
“What!” he snapped, “It can’t be true,” he argued briefly pondering if he was responsible or Fanny. His heart pounded hugely that an instant headache started hitting his head in a radical way.
The doctor raised a brow and peered at him wondering at his reply. “I thought you said she is your wife. Why are you bluffing, uh?” the doctor queried and took of his glasses to behold the trouble spelling the face of Fanny.
He shook his head, “Yes of course, she.. she… she is my wife,” he stuttered, breathed hard and stroked his hair. Ruby replied uneasily, wishing she was actually his wife and all of this war he had with Fanny would end abruptly so he could have Opula to his side all day long, with wonderful family under his tender care. He expected pregnancy to occur, but then who was responsible for it? Who would have told him that the silly mistake Fanny made by giving up Opula and putting her under his care was about to make him the proud father of a baby, if indeed he was responsible for the pregnancy.
“So aren’t you happy that your wife is pregnant.” The doctor said, and added, “Or are you not responsible for the pregnancy?” he asked yet further, shooting his suspicious look into his face and wondering what could be the problem between him and a woman he claimed to be his wife.
He jerked his head in the affirmative. “Oh yeah, yeah,” he replied, “I am happy she is pregnant just that we are done making babies and we agreed not to make more babies so it came onto , me as a shocker,” he lied and kept being troubled within himself over the pregnancy. He prayed that he would be responsible for the pregnancy and not Fanny. This would be dream come to true for him; something he had been clamoring for from time immemorial; right from the day he saw Opula standing next to Fanny . But his whole world would come to an end if he should get to know that the baby in the womb of Opula wasn’t his but for his eternal enemy Fanny. It would be a total loss; a bombshell that would stick to his heart forever.
“Em, doctor is she aware of the news?” he asked anxiously, blinking his eyes a million times at him
“Yes she is aware. But we have an issue,” the doctor said, raising a brow at Ruby, and maintaining a steady grin that left Ruby to think that the worst had happened; possibly the doctor had performed a DNA test on the baby and matched it with his blood since they still had sample of his blood in his clinic. He was scared. He was stunned. A hush of anxiety hung over him.
And Ruby thought the news was horrible; of course it was horrible since he said it was an issue.
“What could that be?” he asked gently, following the movement of the lips of the doctor, trying to get every detail of what he was about saying.
And the doctor snorted with a grin. “Do you have any problem with your wife?” he asked, and bowed his head, to a paper as though he was about reading something form the paper; perhaps the issue was what he discovered in her’ or she could be infected with some virus; or she lost the child; Rubby had a lot pacing through his mind as he stared at the doctor.
He shook his head. “Hell no, she is my lovely wife and we have been happy with each other for years now. We have been peaceful and the admiration of many couples. You see that woman in there, she is everything to me, and I can’t imagine a world without my Opula. So tell me what is the problem, doctor,” he asked, anxiety hanging on his face.
The doctor hummed and said, “She doesn’t want the baby. She is applying for abortion.” The doctor watched as the mountains of frown came upon the face of Rubby and he drifted further from his seat and peered his face forward as though he didn’t hear him clearly.
“Holy Cow!” he exclaimed, and thought briefly and an idea hit his head, “OK on the contrary, I think she is cheating on me, that could be the reason she wants you to abort the baby,” he said
And hoped he didn’t sound foolish by revealing to the doctor that Opula was cheating on him
“Please doctor; I want you to do me a favor. I need to know the paternity of the child so I would love to run a DNA test.” he said, yet sacred of what could be outcome of what he was requesting for.
He had heard about paternity test so much and how it had destroyed so many homes. He pondered if it would be wise to quit the paternity test and pretend that the baby was his. But what if Fanny should come tomorrow to claim the baby? What if he gets to lose Opula to Fanny on the basis of not fathering a child with her? He thought briefly and shook his head
“Yes doctor, I need the paternity test,” he affirmed and breathed hard.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
And the doctor shook his head. “Ok it is possible. First I am going to get you a paper which you wuld signt to grant the clinic your consent to perform a DNA teast on you and your wife,” the doctor said, and observed Rubby frowning hugely.
“Come on what other permission do you need to perform a DNA test. I have given you the permission, doctor,” he argued and lowered his voice.”
“No, you see, we have had cases of couples suing the hospital for performing a DNA test that splitted their homes. Currently we are still battling with a court hearing of a couple who denied the clinic over DNA test her husband did without her consent.”
“Ok bring the paper for my endorsement,” he said.
Ruby wanted to know the paternity of the baby; if actually it was his or Fanny’s; and if it showed to be Fanny’s he would support the abortion but if it showed to be his, Opula would have to keep it.
Trouble ahead…
