CHAPTER 473
Chapter 473
His gaze was fixed on her, his eyes burning with an intensity that suggested the answer meant the world to him.
Sherilyn shifted uncomfortably in his embrace, trying to dodge the question, “Let’s eat before it gets cold. I’ll go grab us some forks…”
Avoiding the question?
Gilbert saw right through her, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
But at least, Sherilyn hadn’t denied it.
“Holding out on me, huh? Is it really that hard to say you like me?” he teased, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I’ll get the forks myself. If you made it, I’m sure to clean the plate, crumbs and all!”
He let her go and turned towards the cabinet.
As she watched him walk away, Sherilyn felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. For a moment, she wavered.
She thought, if he could accept Jenna, treat Jenna well, maybe, just maybe, they could make it work…?
A dangerous thought flickered through her mind, and suddenly, the room seemed to spin, her head felt light, and her heart raced.
Sherilyn quickly steadied herself against the kitchen island, silently waiting for the dizziness and palpitations to pass.
Johnson Mansion.
Late at night.
The ring of his cellphone jerked Francis awake from his sleep. It was Sawyer.
He slid to answer, “Talk.”
“Mr. Francis,” Sawyer, usually composed, sounded panicked, “The young master is missing!”
What??
Francis was instantly wide awake, all traces of sleep gone.
His lips tightened, anger slipping through his control, “Incompetent! You lost a three–year–old child?”
The child was temporarily staying with Sawyer, as Francis hadn’t yet decided how to break the news to Caroline.
On the other end, Sawyer remained silent, offering no excuses.
After venting, Francis regained his composure. Sawyer was busy; he wasn’t the one directly taking care of the child.
They had hired two nannies, working in shifts, more than enough to take care of a three–year–old. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Francis moved to the window, noting the time. It was 2 AM. How could such a young child go missing?
Sawyer explained, “At 8 PM, the nanny made sure the young master went to bed, everything was fine then.”
But who would have thought that when the nanny checked on him in the middle of the night, fearing he might need to use the bathroom, she found the child missing!
The nanny was terrified, immediately informing Sawyer.
Sawyer reviewed the household’s security footage and contacted the community’s security. The footage showed the child sneaking out of the house and through the community gates, indicating the child had been ‘missing‘ for at least 4 hours!
Francis listened silently, his expression growing darker.
“Mr. Francis,” Sawyer continued, “I’ve already contacted the police, and our people are looking too.”
In short, he was doing everything possible.
But so far, there was no news,
This was something he had to inform Francis about.
14:30
“Where are you now?”
“At the front door.”
Knowing Francis, Sawyer understood he wouldn’t just sit around. After doing all he could, Sawyer had positioned himself at the Johnson Mansion entrance.
“Alright,” Francis nodded, though Sawyer couldn’t see, and replied curtly, “I’m on my way.”
After hanging up, Francis quickly changed clothes and rushed out of his room.
But unexpectedly, he ran straight into Caroline.
“Caroline,” Francis stuttered, unable to hide the panic that flickered in his eyes.
After so many years, Caroline knew him too’well.
Her gaze was unnervingly steady, the calm before the storm, “Where are you off to this late?”
Francis frowned slightly. “Sawyer needs me for something.”
