Chapter 43
Chapter 43 Everyone Will Get a Rose
As someone started to clap, thundering applause gradually sounded throughout the room.
The meeting continued for another two hours before adjourning. Maia called out to Robert before he was about to exit the room. “Uncle Flint.”
Robert turned to Maia, puzzled. “How can | help you, Maia?”
“Uncle Flint, the person you were referring to is Jordan Cantrell, right?”
“Of course. He was one of the best in the business. Countless companies tried to hire him. It was such a shame he was fired!” Robert sighed.
“Do you know what happened to him?” Maia asked.
“Your mother’s passing had a significant impact on him. After your uncle became the new chairman, Jordan was fired,” Robert lamented. “It was a known fact that the reason he stayed with us was because of your mother, after all! It was such a shame.”
“My mother,” Maia murmured. “Are you planning to get him back at Starlight Entertainment?” Maia nodded without hesitation.
“It won't be an easy task. After being fired, numerous companies tried to get him to join them, but he wasn’t interested,” Robert explained.
“Do you happen to know where he is now?” Maia persisted.
“| wish | could help, but I don’t.” Robert shook his head dejectedly.
“It's fine. Thank you, Uncle Flint.”
Robert gave
her a reassuring nod and left. Maia continued to stare into space, deep in thought. Just then, a knock came from the conference doors.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Buck walked in with a stack of health reports. “I’ve verified them. Phil wasn’t lying. These reports are authentic-your mother wasn’t diagnosed with depression.”
Maia’s eyes turned red, clouded with confusion.
Buck immediately continued, “Maia, these reports don’t mean anything! Maybe there was another accident? You can’t just conclude that this was a murder!”
“You're right. My mother had prepared her will. Making Errol her successor to the winery and +15 BONUS This was exactly why it was all so suspicious. Everything seemed like it was well planned out. Too well.
Maia pressed on, “I saw the report myself two years ago. It clearly stated that my mother had depression, and it was the cause of her death. How could you explain this?
Maybe calling this a murder is too far-fetched, but there was something wrong here.” Someone wanted to bury this, and | must find out what it is!”
Buck agreed, as what Maia said made perfect sense. “Where should we start? It has been two years. This won't be easy at all!” “Even if it's difficult, | must find the truth!”
“| can’t stop you once you’ve made up your mind. But | must warn you that if someone is determined to hide your mother’s death, serious things are going on. I’m afraid digging into this will endanger you!”
Buck was concerned about Maia’s safety. The business world was just like a battlefield. One mistake might cost you everything, even your life.
“| can’t let Mom’s death be covered up as a suicide when it’s not!”
Maia was determined. She was not going to give in just because it was dangerous. She must avenge her mother’s death by finding out the truth and making the culprit pay!
“Fine. Let's do this!” Buck responded with fierce determination.
Maia did not want Buck to be caught in the crossfire, “No, Buck, if there’s danger...”
“Listen here, Missy. How could | be a coward when someone as small as you isn’t afraid?” Buck patted his firm chest. Maia teared up as she stared at Buck gratefully.
“Look here, Maia. Without you, | would still be that worthless guy the head nurse yelled at. Worse, I’d be homeless. | should be the one grateful here.”
“Let's start by looking into Jordan Cantrell’s whereabouts.”
The finance department was the most important position in the organization. She needed to ensure that it was overseen by someone capable.
“Was he the previous financial manager?” Buck inquired. Maia nodded.
“Right, on it!”
There was a minor commotion when Mala returned to her office on the 20th floor. The secretaries on the floor were crowded around her table.
“What's going on here?”
The secretaries quickly cleared the way for her. “Ms. Maia, there’s something here for you.
Maia looked down to see a rose-filled glass cabinet. These were no ordinary roses. They were the best of their kind. Every rose was a stunning, deep red color that would have cost a fortune.
“Who were they from?” Maia questioned.
“Mr. Cedric.”
Maia squinted at the beautiful roses, but she did not smile. If this were a year ago, Maia would have been overjoyed to receive flowers from him.
She only felt helpless now. “Help yourselves to the flowers. In fact, make sure everyone in the company has a rose.” Maia’s secretary was taken aback.
Maia continued, “The next time Cedric Larkin sends something over, reject it. Now tell the finance department to transfer 27 thousand dollars to HL Corporation. Make sure they use funds from my personal account.”
Maia was not someone who would take advantage of
Thers. If they were gifts for her employees, she would ensure the funds came out of her pocket! “Right away, Ms. Maia,” her secretary replied. Maia nodded and walked toward her office.
Her phone rang just as she entered her room. It was a message from her aunt.
“Maia, you should come over for dinner tonight. I’m cooking!”
Maia agreed without a second thought.

The phone in her office rang a few moments later. As she pressed the receive button, heard her secretary’s voice on the other end say, “Ms. Maia, Mrs. Rita Larkin is here to see you.
Maia frowned. It could only mean trouble if Rita Larkin was here to see her. Maia was no longer part of the Larkin family. So, what business does she have here?
