A Successful Career After Divorce

“Brendon, don’t hold me so tight.” Ranita gently pushed him, her voice softening. “Wake up, I need to talk to you.”

After a long pause, Brendon finally responded, “What is it?”

Brendon had changed; he wasn’t like this before.

“Brendon! Did you hear me?”

Brendon lazily opened his eyes, seeing Ranita’s reflection in them. He leaned in to kiss her on the nose. “What did you just say?”

“I said Candy Studio has issued a statement breaking the engagement!” Ranita wasn’t sure how to describe her feelings. She wasn’t exactly happy, maybe even a bit gloomy.

“Oh, I know.” Brendon lowered his eyes. His face, now a bit fuller, looked much healthier. The morning light highlighted his features, making Ranita feel warm inside and lifting her spirits.

“Isn’t your reaction a bit too calm?”

“It was expected.” Brendon smiled at Ranita. “Are you happy?”

“Why would I be happy!” Ranita grinned. “What does your broken engagement have to do with me!”

Brendon pinched her cheek, enjoying its smoothness.

“Good thing you’re not Pinocchio, or your nose would be so long…” Brendon exaggeratedly said, hugging Ranita closer. “Once I’m better, let’s remarry!”

The thought made Brendon anxious.

Given his current condition, he would need to stay in the hospital for a while. What if his wife and son ran away during that time?

“I never agreed to remarry you! Keep dreaming!” Ranita quickly changed the subject. “I just didn’t expect Shannon to announce it directly.”

Ranita thought Shannon wouldn’t announce it so soon.

At least not now.

Online opinions were still largely in Shannon’s favor. Her fervent fans had been attacking Ranita, calling her a homewrecker. This statement would be a slap in their faces!

Ranita looked at Brendon in confusion. “What did you do?”

“Ranita, the Murphy family and the Stuart family have been entrenched in Kurima for years with similar strengths. No matter what happens behind the scenes, they won’t fall out publicly. My engagement with Shannon was a bonus for the Murphy family; it didn’t matter if it didn’t happen.”

“Oscar Murphy has already agreed, so he won’t go back on his word.”

Ranita understood that although the Murphy family agreed to break the engagement, there might still be repercussions.

“What about Stuart’s Corp… will there be any issues?” Ranita bit her lip, her eyes filled with worry.

“I heard from Dylan that Stuart’s Corp was facing some problems…”

“Don’t listen to Dylan’s nonsense!” Brendon interrupted her. “It’s not a big issue; I can handle it.” Stuart’s Corp did face some problems, but it was a large corporation and wouldn’t collapse from minor attacks.

However, his two-day coma had indeed caused concern among the board members and shareholders.

“Really?” Ranita was still worried. She sighed and said, “If there’s a financial issue, maybe I can help.”

Brendon laughed softly and leaned closer to Ranita. “How could I forget? My Ranita is a bona fide rich lady!”
