A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 828: Burn

“Brendon, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been so willful and childish,” Shannon said, her head lowered like a child who had done something wrong. Even the hardest heart would find it difficult to hold a grudge.

Brendon seemed to appreciate Shannon’s attitude and nodded, saying, “I understand.”

“Brendon, does this mean you’ve forgiven me?” Shannon asked in surprise. “That’s wonderful.”

“I came out for a walk today and thought I’d come see you, but I was afraid you were still angry, so I didn’t dare come up.”

“Brendon, thank you.”

Brendon didn’t say anything.

Ranita felt a mix of emotions she couldn’t quite describe.

As Brendon had said, the Stuart family and the Murphy family had been friends for generations; completely severing ties was unlikely.

Given the current situation, this was probably the best outcome.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

“Ranita, what’s wrong? Are you unhappy?” Shannon’s soft voice brought Ranita back to reality. She gave Shannon a faint smile. “Acknowledging your mistakes and sincerely apologizing is a good start. I can feel your sincerity.”

But Ranita didn’t say whether she forgave Shannon or not.

Shannon looked at Ranita with a pitiful expression, biting her lip. “That’s good. Brendon, I won’t disturb your meal any longer. I’ll leave now.”

This time, Shannon was sensible enough to leave immediately after apologizing. Ranita couldn’t quite understand her attitude.

Ranita went to Gauss Technology with a heavy heart. Makhi Terry noticed her distraction and asked, “Ranita, is something bothering you?”

“No, no!” Ranita shook her head. “Where were we?”

Makhi Terry smiled. “Let’s take a coffee break and continue later.”

Makhi Terry had already prepared everything; his secretary brought coffee that suited Ranita’s taste. Halfway through her coffee, Ranita suddenly remembered. “Ah… you called me earlier saying you had something to tell me. What was it? I’ve been so busy at the hospital that I forgot to call you back.”

Makhi Terry laughed softly, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. “It’s nothing important now. How’s Brendon doing?”

“He’s almost recovered and should be able to leave the hospital soon.” Ranita paused and looked at Makhi. “Makhi, have you known Brendon for a long time? Aren’t you two close?”

Makhi seemed lost in thought.

“I’ve known Brendon for a long time. As for our relationship… it’s a long story…” Makhi seemed reluctant to elaborate.

Ranita didn’t press further. “Sorry.”

After finishing their business, Makhi escorted Ranita to the lobby. “Do you need a ride?”

“No, I’ll take a cab back. You go ahead,” she said just as a delivery man carrying a full bag brushed past her. Walking too quickly, his bag snagged on Ranita’s bag.

Ranita was jerked back, and the plastic bag tore open, spilling hot coffee all over her.

Before she could react, her leg was burned.

“Ranita, are you okay?” Makhi was terrified. Ignoring propriety, he knelt down and used a handkerchief to wipe the coffee off her leg. Her fair skin was turning red from the burn. “Let’s get to the restroom and rinse it with cold water.”

Ranita knew the most important thing was to apply cold treatment immediately, so she let Makhi help her to the restroom.

No one paid attention as the delivery man who had bumped into her ran off with a cold smile in his eyes.
