A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 869: Hurt

“Ranita, I’m really afraid that Brendon will hurt you,” Alexia said, holding Ranita’s hand, her eyes red as if she were about to cry. “For the sake of your father and me, can you give him up?”

“There are definitely better people out there, more suitable for you.”

Ranita didn’t know how to respond.

Alexia said she wouldn’t force her, but every word felt like pressure.

Just like when Chole first came back, she said she would love her and treat her like her own daughter, but Ranita knew there was a difference.

Alexia felt guilty towards Chole, so even though she knew Chole had never hurt her, she still asked Ranita to be patient and not bring up the past.

This was a form of favoritism.

And it hurt her.

“Mom… let me think about it,” Ranita said, feeling a chill down her spine. She wanted to tell Alexia clearly that she loved Brendon and didn’t want to give up on this relationship, but Alexia seemed unable to accept it.

“Okay! Think it over!” Alexia paused and then asked, “By the way, how did it go with that kid from the Grant family today? I’ve met him before; he’s quite good-looking, tall and handsome, a few years older than you. His family is also quite anxious. If you think he’s nice, you should go out for a meal together.”

Ranita looked at Alexia and said, “Mom, if I don’t think he’s nice, will you keep setting me up on dates?”

“You silly child! You’re not getting any younger; marriage is a normal thing. If you don’t like this one, of course, you’ll keep going on dates! I can’t believe there isn’t a single good man in Steland that you like.”

Ranita pressed her lips together. “I have a good impression of Leon.”

“But he might think I’m not suitable for him!”

“Really?” Alexia immediately took out her phone. “I’ll ask him.”

Ranita felt suffocated. Fortunately, Leon didn’t let her down. He patiently explained everything to Alexia and even said he would visit her when he had time, making Alexia very happy.

“Leon has such a sweet mouth!” Alexia laughed as she put down her phone. “You really don’t have any chemistry?”Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

“Mom…”

“Alright, alright! But Leon said he’ll come over to our house when he has time. Maybe you’ll hit it off then!” Alexia looked so worried that Ranita felt exasperated.

Ranita ran away as if escaping.

She had just returned to her room when she received a call from Augustus. “Ranita, I heard Saniyah Evans has been setting you up on dates recently?”

“How do you know?” Ranita replied irritably. “My mom is just anxious.”

“I heard it somewhere! How’s it going? Have you found anyone? Should I start preparing my wedding cash?” Augustus joked.

“There’s no such thing!” Ranita sighed. “Nothing is set in stone yet. Why are you so gossipy?”

Augustus laughed heartily. “Actually, I’m not just gossiping. I called because I need your help.”

“Hmm?”

Augustus had a foreign trade deal to discuss and needed a translator. The one he hired was stuck due to extreme weather and hadn’t boarded the plane yet, likely unable to make it by tomorrow.

So he asked Ranita to help out early the next morning.

Ranita agreed without hesitation.

The next morning, Augustus picked her up for work. The meeting went smoothly, and within two hours, the contract was successfully signed.

Augustus was so pleased that he treated her to lunch and even gave her a bag worth tens of thousands of dollars.
