Chapter 535
Mid-sentence, the woman put down the comb in her hand and stood up, she stared blankly at the direction of the shopping bag and walked towards it. Next, she fumbled in the bag and picked out a red packet of potato chips. Returning to where she left the doll, she sat now and opened the packet of potato chips. Then she stuffed a few pieces in her mouth before grabbing a chip and pushing it into the mouth of the doll.
"Yummy! It's tomato-flavored, your favorite. Here, try it!"
"Yannie, be a good girl and study hard. You can find yourself a good partner after you've grown up. Here, I'll feed you, open your mouth."
Jeremy had tears in his eyes upon hearing the tenderness in her voice. However, he was still immersed in the loving voice when he heard a sharp voice piercing through the air.
"Why aren't you eating? Why?"
"Such a disobedient girl! You don't focus on your studies, you refuse to eat, you even try dating a gangster! Is this something I taught you?" "If you want to die, go ahead! Even if you die, you cant...
"Fine, keep drinking! Go on and die, make a clean end of things! You're really worthless, dying for a man!"
"... You'll never be worth anything!"
Jeremy watched as his mother threw punches at the doll, clearly unstable. Jeremy got up. However, before he'd done anything else, the woman had already pulled the doll into her arms, sobbing as if her heart would break.
"Yannie, please! Don't leave me!"
"My sweet girl, I love you. I'm sorry I was so harsh. I promise I won't act like this anymore!"
"You can date whoever you like! I'll even help you with your hair and makeup, I promise. Look, let's put a flower behind your ear, wouldn't that look nice?"Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
"Please don't die! Please, I love you, don't take the medicine! It's poison, and there's no antidote!"
"I'm sorry I couldn't save you!" she sobbed bitterly....
Her words rang in Jeremy's ears. He'd heard those exact words before, but they'd never made sense until then. As they played once again in his head, something suddenly struck him.
"I thought that Mother's words had been nonsense due to her resentment towards Nicholas. But could they have been the words that she had said to Yannie while she was still alive?" Had he misinterpreted the situation?
He knew that Yannie committed suicide from a drug overdose. He'd also found out that Nicholas was a rebellious playboy from a rich family, who'd fooled around with countless girls and gotten into fights almost constantly.
Could he have been wrong about the reason behind his sister's death? Perhaps it wasn't because of Nicholas's action?
From what he remembered, his last encounter with Yannie was that she was still a good student with above-average grades at school. She'd even been working really hard to improve herself!
What was going on?
Back then he only knew about the incident from hearsay. By the time he'd found out about his sister's death, she had already been cremated. Nicholas had gone missing too, and his mother had already lost her mind.
Could his conclusions have been completely wrong?
His brain buzzed. Jeremy could barely stand. Could it be that Yannie committed suicide because of their mother's objection to her relationship with Nicholas?
If that was the case...
His thoughts were whirling, so much so that he didn't even remember how he had left Serenity Sanatorium. Not long after his car left the building, Lindsay walked out of a nearby corridor and entered the sanatorium. . . .
In the president's office of the Soaver International company, the ray from the setting sun painted the corner of his desk. Frederick paused for a moment from his writing, shifting his gaze to the diamond ring on his hand.
Yet another day was coming to an end.
Ever since she left, his life had been mundane. Days passed by aimlessly. He was most afraid of nightfall. In the past, he had never felt tired, but at that moment, he felt as if he was being sentenced to death every night.
He put the cap back on the pen and rubbed the sore spot between his eyebrows. His gaze once again fell on the green plants that were full of vitality. His hand went to the ring on his finger unconsciously. Turning it gently as a hint of tenderness appeared in his eyes.
He didn't know how long he had sat there blankly, but when he came back to his senses, he realized that he'd fallen asleep on his chair. The room was completely dark.
He turned on the table lamp and proceeded to switch off his computer. Then, he got up and picked up his car keys.
Without any appetite or any idea of
what he wanted to do, he drove around the city aimlessly. He was snapped back to reality by the sound of a car horn behind him whilst waiting for the green light. Clutching the steering wheel, he parked his car slowly at a parking spot nearby.
He'd planned to look for something to eat, but when he looked up, the first thing that came into focus was the flashing neon lights on the sign that said "Heaven Star Clubhouse".
"Did you hear about a certain Miss Swift at the Heaven Star Clubhouse? Apparently, her dance skill is superb, and her beauty is captivating..."
All of a sudden, a voice rang in his head and emotions flooded his mind. Ally's dance skill had also been mesmerizing!
Frederick walked over without thinking.
Upon entering the nightclub, he found a seat in the center of the hall. After sitting down, he ordered some snacks and a bottle of wine. He even got someone to order takeout for him. Then, he focused his eyes on the stage.
The Heaven Star Clubhouse looked magnificent after the renovation, and the design was obviously a lot more stylish than before. Even the waiters seemed more professional. At that time, there was a group of beautiful women dancing and singing on the stage. Although the seats were not full yet, the whole room gave off a sense of charm and prosperity.
After a few performances, Frederick didn't see anything special. There had been no major differences after all. After hearing all the stories, he'd expected more, but it was still only on par with East Bannpool.
Frederick raised his hand to gesture for a waiter, "Which one is Miss Swift?"
"Sir, are you here to see Miss Swift's performance as well? Unfortunately, she's not in today! Look over there, those men are also here for Miss Swift!"
Turning his head slightly, Frederick
saw bouquets of roses in varied
colors. Some had been pushed to one side, while others were still in the hands of the men. There were at least a dozen of them, each more ornate and gigantic than the previous one. The largest one seemed to consist of 999 blue enchantresses, while another bouquet of the same size were red roses. The rest of the flowers were of normal garden-store variety.
This must be something! A sliver of interest cut through the fog of his thoughts as he gazed at the number of men she'd attracted. Could her dance
skills be better than Ally's? And how beautiful must she be, to have gathered so many admirers? Could she be prettier than Alicia?
Those poor, naive men. Perhaps he'd have a look, himself!
"Do you know when she'll be here?"
"I'm so sorry, sir, but we really can't say. Miss Swift is one of our bosses. She only comes over once a week, twice if we're lucky. I'm so sorry that we can't give you a clear answer. We really don't know!"
