Chapter 80 The Ugly Man

Blanche arrived at the center of the dining hall, attracting a circle of spectators. The company mandated everyone to be there for breakfast by 7:30 sharp, but Blanche was late, displaying a demeanor of casual laziness. A perfect example of what not to be.

Moreover, Blanche had never appeared at the company before. Everyone was viewing her with a biased perspective. Cathy threw a glance at Blanche and muttered quietly.

"Such a sleepyhead. Was she a pig in her past life?"

The comment was barely audible, so Blanche didn't hear it, but those sitting at the same table with Cathy did. They chuckled and sneered behind their hands.

"Mrs. Herbart, please come and have breakfast with Mr. Herbart." Sam approached and led Blanche to Louis' table.

Looking at the direction Sam was pointing, there was indeed an empty seat for breakfast. When she looked around, all the other seats were taken. Blanche nodded and thanked him before following Sam.

Even though she had arrived late, she had no appetite at all. It felt as if there was a rock lodged in her heart.

All the senior executives of the company were at the table, aside from Louis, who was sitting at the head of the table. They all studied Blanche carefully when she joined them. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Louis picked up his glass of milk, leaned back, and glanced at Blanche.

Early in the morning before dawn, he had slipped back into his own room. When he left, seeing Blanche's rosy cheeks in deep slumber made him feel a pang of guilt.

At first, he had planned to lie on her bed for a bit before leaving. He had been suffering from insomnia these few nights. Blanche slept soundly, which was tempting.

He merely intended to feel the comfort of her bed before leaving, but he ended up almost sleeping till dawn.

If Blanche were to find out that he had slept on her bed last night, she would be furious.

Despite Louis' unwavering confidence in his charm, he had a premonition that if Blanche discovered that he had slept in her bed, she wouldn't react with the same excitement as most women would, as if they had just won one million dollars.

Blanche took a piece of bread, chewed a few bites, and propped up one side of her cheek.

Moments later, she drooped her head again, looking soulless.

Who was that man last night? Such a scoundrel.

Thinking about how Louis was in her room before she went to sleep, Blanche shifted her gaze, subtly checking him out. It could have been him.

What if he was the one who opened the window in the morning?

Louis was elegantly slicing his steak with a side profile that exuded dominance. There was no sign of anything amiss.

Louis lowered his gaze slightly, turned his head slightly, and their eyes almost met, but Blanche hastily averted her gaze.

At this moment, she really wanted to grab Sam, who was standing by her side, and ask him where his boss had slept last night.

"Mrs. Herbart, do you feel unwell? Should I take you to the hospital?" Seeing Blanche look at him, Sam asked first. He had noticed her being lost in thoughts for a while.

Blanche shook her head.

"No need. I am fine. I just didn't sleep well last night."

"Do you feel uncomfortable sleeping in that room? I'll arrange another room for you later."

Thinking about the wide-open window when she woke up in the morning, Blanche was indeed feeling uneasy.

"Have you heard? Darcy said she was scared to death last night. When she got up to use the bathroom, she found a man peeping at her through the window."

"You've gotta be kidding me? Was it some weirdo slipping in at night for something dirty?"

"That's what we think. Darcy said that when she shone a flashlight at him, the man was hideous and sleazy, his face full of pus-filled sores with a monkey-like appearance. You could tell at a glance that he was up to no good."

"Really? Did anything happen to Darcy? Jeez, Darcy is so plump and round, like a dinosaur. If even she attracts peepers, this man must be really desperate."

"Exactly. But luckily, Darcy was fine. She said that the ugly man ran away as soon as he noticed she was awake. He probably went to another room."

"Oh, my God. Whose room did he go into? That's terrifying. How can there be such a person?"

"I bet that bastard probably succeeded in pulling off his dishonorable intent in one of the rooms. You're naive. The victim wouldn't speak out. Girls value their reputation. Being rapped is as disgusting as swallowing a fly. If the word gets out, it would be hard for her to find a boyfriend in the future."

"You're right. Thank God it wasn't us who got violated. Damn pervert."

The two women continued their hushed conversation as they walked away.

Blanche's hand, which was holding the fork, suddenly turned cold. So, the ugly man last night ended up in her bed and slept with her?

Blanche absentmindedly swallowed her bread, which got stuck mercilessly in her throat. She choked, gasping for air, and quickly grabbed her milk, taking several sips.

"Mrs. Herbart, are you okay?" Sam asked with concern.

After a few strong thumps on her chest, Blanche slowly recovered. Confronted with the peculiar gazes of everyone, she choked up.

Louis's gaze was deep like ink, and it choked Blanche even more, leaving her speechless.

"Is the bread too dry? I'll go get some porridge."

Blanche shook her head. Right now, even if the world's most delicious dishes were placed in front of her, she wouldn't be able to eat.

Full of pustules, lewd, with a narrow face and monkey-like features, squinting eyes - even in broad daylight, Blanche felt as if her whole body was being crawled over by caterpillars. This feeling was unbearable.

Blanche held her forehead. Oh, God, what kind of karma had she built up in her previous life to endure such an insult while asleep?

This was simply a lifetime of trauma.

The more she thought about it, the angrier Blanche became. She decisively clenched her fist and slammed it on the dining table, causing the cutlery to bounce.

"Bastard, son of a bitch! When I find you, I'll tear you apart!"

Blanche was so angry that even her breathing became heavy. Her face, pale just a second ago, turned red with anger. The executives around her were taken aback, each looking at Blanche inquisitively.

Louis, who was holding his phone, paused and asked seriously.

"What's wrong?"

Blanche turned her head to look at the speaker. Louis was wearing a brown coat today, exuding elegance. Compared to the lewd, narrow-faced, monkey-featured ugly man they had described earlier, Louis was infuriatingly handsome.

Blanche couldn't help thinking that it would have been a little better if it had been Louis last night.

Wait, Blanche slapped her face. What was she thinking about?

"Mrs. Herbart, what happened?"

Some even felt that Blanche was possessed, cautiously looking at Louis.

Receiving various bewildered glances from the executives, Louis indifferently instructed Blanche.

"You eat breakfast at the table over there. We're having a morning meeting here."

After speaking, Louis accepted the laptop handed over by Sam.

Indeed, they had all finished eating and were sitting around. Even the whole restaurant was done with breakfast.

Blanche nodded, holding the plate in one hand and milk in the other, and sat down at an empty table nearby.
