While they interacted, Vanessa fed Chloe herself. Just to make the little girl happy again, she decided to tell her lots of stories until she fell asleep.

She led her on the bed and made sure she was covered with a blanket before she left the sofa, getting herself busy with her cell phone.

The ring flashed in her mind again making her heart flip twice… this isn’t what she’s ready for, she is fighting within her to make sure everything about the ring is wiped out of her mind so she can be herself again, yet it keeps getting deeper and deeper.

When she felt staying awake was enough, she left the bathroom and took a shower before laying beside Chloe on the bed.

Xavier had been in deep thought since Chloe told him about Vanessa sleeping over with her for the night.

He thought of what the little girl is up to for making such a request.

This isn’t the right time to demand such a request …all these days he had noticed something different in Vanessa. He knew the pains she had been passing through in the hands of Lillian.

Lilian had been busy with her PC from the time he came in, the least she could do was to welcome him with a warm hug but didn’t bother for any other thing just as usual.

He undressed and left to eat immediately due to the rumbling of his stomach. Out of hunger, he decided to take his meal before freshening up.

Tracy served him his meal and left to his room immediately, he sat alone with Ben discussing some certain issues about his school… With that he was able to kick some thoughts off his mind in order to concentrate on his meal.

Ben didn’t bother to leave his room, he decided to be with his dad until he’s done with the meal, because he had noticed his mood and his facial expression wasn’t bright.

“There is this competition that will be ongoing in our school very soon Dad, I just hope you’ll be present…” Ben announced his hearing.

He shook his head in rejection.”You know I can’t leave my office just because of a mere competition, maybe Lillian will be present.”

“To hell with that lady coming over to my school dad, I just prefer no one should come other than letting her represent you.” Ben retorted

Xavier didn’t bother to ask him further questions because of that statement, he had known that his children will never love Lilian because of the torture she had made them pass through.

“Who then will represent me if I’m not around, or you don’t need anyone huh?”

He nodded. “I think it’s better, if you can’t make it then no problems with that.”

“Maybe I’ll tell Vanessa to come over on that day…”

“Oh dad, you’ve come again… even if I should welcome the lady, you know Tracy wouldn’t. She doesn’t love either of the ladies.. no one at all. So I think it’s better we stay just for ourselves or rather on that day we won’t participate in the competition.”

“You can’t do that to yourself Ben, okay, you know what? I will see what I can do about that. But just have it in mind that if I’m not present, someone might be there to represent me.” he assured him.

Ben smiled at that assurance, but all he wished is that none of the ladies would be present if his dad won’t make it there

“Have you had your dinner?” Xavier asked, drawing his attention again.

He nodded. “Yes Dad, we all have taken our dinner though I’m not sure about Chloe.”

“She had, Vanessa fed her.” Xavier replied, dropping the spoon on the plate.

Ben packed up the dishes to the kitchen and cleaned up the dining before the two left upstairs to their various rooms.

After some minutes of taking a rest on the sofa in his room, he headed to the bathroom and freshened up.

“You didn’t bother to know how I worked for today, Lillian? what sort of human being are you?”

She lifted her eyelids, staring at him completely. “As you can see, I am very busy… all I need is to concentrate on what I’m doing…

“Of course you’ve taken your meal . Haven’t you? you’ve taken your shower too, so the next thing is to go to bed. Just to let me be, Mr Xavier.” Lillian screamed.

He gritted his teeth while glaring at her as she sat on the sofa still busy with her PC.

“Since you said so, no problems with that.” He climbed on the bed and laid down, his eyes shut trying to force himself to sleep but he couldn’t sleep.

He rumbled the bed covers while trying to put himself together, but he couldn’t.

Lilian watched him get down on the bed and move out of the room, she let out a loud noise and then looked off at him.

Xavier moved to Chloe’s room to get Vanessa laid on the bed deep asleep. He was so shocked, he couldn’t believe Vanessa later adhered to Chloe’s request despite how tough it was.

He bit his lips moving closer to the bed, he had thought that Vanessa wasn’t asleep yet, but when he tapped her shoulder she didn’t make a move.

He stood at a corner staring at the innocent face of Vanessa… how beautiful she looks when asleep.

His eyes caught her red succulent lips and her straightened eyelashes, her long dark hair was tied up with ribbons.

Chloe rested her head on Vanessa’s chest sleeping like a baby, he smiled at that.

“So this is just the reason you wanted this lady to sleep over with you right? In order for you to rest your head on his chest just like you have always done to me before I employed her…” he smiled widely and got on his feet.

Xavier began darting his eyes round the corner of the room. It’s been a long time since he did this… he had trusted Vanessa to take care of Chloe and all the properties in her room and so it is.

Everywhere was so clean and sparkling, he moved towards the bed again placing his palm on Vanessa’s cheek.

“I will never regret the first day I met you, employing you into my home was something great in my life…you have done much for me and I don’t even know how to repay you back. Thank you so much Vanessa for not turning your back on me despite the pains you are passing through in the hands of Lillian.”

He swallowed deeply running his fingers in his hair while his eyes affixed on her face.

“Miss Vanessa, sorry for saying this… but, I love you so much from the depths of my heart.” he declared audibly.

The door pushed open and Lilian dashed in. The expression on her face was so chiseled that he had suspected that she had been at the doorpost all this while.

“What did you just say now, Xavier? You love who?… You love her right?”

She let out a wicked smile. “No wonder you’ve been acting strange towards me since I came here. So you love yet you’re hiding it from me? Why not just go ahead and tell me that you are not interested in me any longer so I can make my way out of your life?”

He moved towards Lillian staring into her eyes. “I didn’t mean to hurt you, and the love that I’m talking about isn’t that type going on in your mind, stop misquoting me…

“Yes, I love her because of how assiduously she’s working for me… not because I am taking her in replace of you. You just need to understand me for once.”

Lillian hit his cheek with her left palm. “I think it’s high time I began tolerating all your deeds, now just tell me the truth. You’ve been having affairs with her right? Haven’t you…?” She sparked.

Xavier stepped backwards, the anger rooming in him at the moment was so deep that he could do anything to Lillian out of it.

“You had the guts to raise your hand on me just because of the word ‘love’. Why would you always monitor everything that I do, because you don’t trust me huh?”

He shook his head, rumbling his hair at the same time. “Lillian, you have a bit more than you can chew. I think I have tolerated much from you…

“I haven’t for once raised my hands on you, but you had the guts to do that all because of a fellow woman, whom you know so well that I have nothing to do with her.”

“Then why did you remark on loving her? You are having affairs with Xavier, stop lying, I know everything you are doing.”

“And I know what you are doing too Lillian, take your time and stop pushing me to the wall because I won’t take it any longer from you.” He retorted.

Lilian glared at him. “I should be the one to say that, because between two options… one must surely happen. The last thing I will ever do is to sit and watch this bitch take my position in your life, but you know what…she must pay for it and you will do too.”

Xavier watched Lilian twitch out of the room hitting the door so hard that Vanessa got awake.

Her eyes narrowed as she glanced around. “Mr Xavier, is everything alright? Why are you here? You are not asleep yet?” She asked multiple questions at once.

Xavier moved towards her, gripping her palm. “Everything is ok, I just came over to see how Chloe is doing but I was shocked to see you sleeping over with her.”

“Yeah, she persisted that I should sleep over or she wouldn’t take her dinner, so in order to make her happy I had to give in to her request and I believe she will be happy now.” Vanessa stated.

Xavier smiled and let go of her palm. “I will have to go to bed now, take care of yourself and Chloe.”

She nodded and watched him leave the room.
