Tobias lit up a cigarette and with his slender fingers, tapped the ashes off it. “Get in touch with that girl.

I'd like to meet her.”

Very quickly, Susan keyed this into her schedule using her phone. She would do the same for every

instruction that came from Tobias, no matter the magnitude of the matter. That was also the reason why

Tobias thought so highly of her all these years.

Tobias was never one who rewarded anybody for effort. He was clear about what value someone could

provide him and was wholly unsentimental about it, never hesitating about giving anyone who was not

competent enough for him the boot.

Looking at the time, Tobias saw that it was almost midnight and griped at how quickly time flew by.

Then, he and Susan departed together.

Susan did not drive as her car was in the shop, hence she followed behind Tobias in the belief that her

boss would offer her a ride.

With Skylar on his mind, Tobias left his companion with these perfunctory words. “Call yourself a cab. I

have something else to attend to and won't be able to see you home.”

Susan nodded and watched as Tobias' Maserati sped off in a cloud of dust. She felt quite conflicted

inside about it as they were obviously headed in the same direction.

Late at night, Skylar heard the jingle of the keys upon the coffee table. Her eyes peeled open when she

felt Tobias' arms wrap around her, and she replied groggily in a childlike tone, “You're back.” Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

The scent of tobacco off Tobias' body tickled her nostrils before she fell back into the sheets anew.

Unwilling to reopen her eyes again, she allowed her weariness to overcome her, and soon, she drifted

off to sleep.

Tobias had intended to say something to Skylar just now, but seeing that she was already sleeping

soundly, his attention turned to her phone instead. The display was still lit, and next to the pillow sat her

blue-tooth earpiece.

Skylar was still watching the Livestream. Tobias regarded the man inside the phone and thought the

latter to be average in the looks department, albeit with a tad too much makeup slapped on.

There were a few thousand people still connected to the channel while the man was thanking his

supporters for their contributions. Skylar herself was ranked amongst the most ardent supporters.

She had specially reduced the size of the interface when watching the Livestream as she was

concerned about being too carried away with mashing on the “like” button.

Tobias did not change out of his suit and instead devoted a considerable amount of his time to studying

the contents of the channel. Afterward, he blacklisted the streamer so that she would not be able to see

him anymore.

As he recalled, Madelyn had described the buyer's remorse Skylar experienced after the latter gifted

the male streamer a donation valued at one thousand. I'd say, she should be blighted by remorse and

deservingly so.

Being as stingy as she was, Skylar had never bought him any gifts before. Instead, she went on to

splurge on other men. So the more Tobias thought about it, the more it irked him.

Skylar did not see Tobias around when she clambered up. The sun was high outside and having

awoken very early, she could still hear the dogs barking from another distant corner of the residential

area.

She distinctly remembered Tobias hugging her last night, but when she checked to her right, there was

no evidence of anyone having laid there. It felt cold when she ran her fingers over it, and that raised

doubts as to whether she had been dreaming.

Tobias did not even return... The dream I had was just too surreal.

Downstairs, Madelyn was in the kitchen making breakfast and the fragrance of the oatmeal could be

picked up from afar.

Skylar went to the kitchen to grab the cold milk from the fridge and tossed it into the microwave. “Did

Mr. Ford come back last night?”

“I went upstairs after you finished the pumpkin soup and did not come back down, so I don't know if

anyone came in,” Madelyn replied.

“Not even in the morning?” prompted Skylar.

Madelyn's biological clock was accurate to a tee. Her routine involved being up by five and freshening

herself up quickly before heading into the kitchen to make breakfast.

She then recalled vaguely hearing a vehicular engine being started up when she came out and

supposed that it must be around that time that Tobias left.

“Now that you mention it, I remember that it should be just past five, before sunrise. I'd say, it's really

tough on Mr. Ford. Coming in late and heading out early every single day the way he does. Only now

do I understand how difficult it is to run a business with so many things to take care of day in, day out.

Whenever Mr. Ford is at home, he never seemed to run out of calls to make, and every time I tidied up

the study—”

The “ding” from the microwave indicating that the milk was warmed cut off Madelyn's incessant chatter.

Skylar poured herself a glass and gazed vacuously beyond the windows. It was already past six but the

sky had yet to be completely illuminated. Dark and gloomy was the mood outside.

That being said, what she experienced last night was not a dream. Tobias had been back, but it was

not clear what he was so preoccupied with that he needed to leave the house that early.
