Melinda continued to express her gratitude to Madelyn It was clear from her words that the help she received came with a heavy emotional burden.

Madelyn could tell Melinda genuinely wanted to repay her, so she felt burdened.

After several interactions, Madelyn understood Melinda’s good character. She didn’t want to increase the weight on Melinda’s shoulders.

Hence, she suggested, “How about I become Rena’s godmother?”

Melinda looked up in confusion.

“This…

“Why? Can’t I become Rena’s godmother? You’re not Rena’s biological mother, but she calls you Mom. Having another mom wouldn’t be bad for her, right?”

“It’s not that it’s a bad thing. It’s just that we…”

“Alright then. It’s settled,” Madelyn said, sensing Melinda’s hesitation.

She knew that Melinda was an intelligent woman and understood the implications of her suggestion. She knew that Melinda always kept the thought of repaying her at the back of her mind.

If she became Serena’s godmother, it would essentially erase the debt between them. It could even alleviate Melinda’s stress.

Madelyn hadn’t told Melinda that her chances of becoming a mother were slim. Even though Brianna had been reassuring, she knew that conceiving would be extremely difficult with her condition.

Melinda wanted to refuse but reconsidered when she thought about the hospital’s prognosis and the upcoming expenses she couldn’t afford.

She ultimately felt that Madelyn was right. She wasn’t Serena’s biological mother.

However, Melinda still felt uneasy when she considered Madelyn’s status.

“Is it really okay?”

“Of course it is.”

Melinda looked at Madelyn. Her eyes were filled with gratitude. Ever since she found Serena, she had felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Without any family of her own, she had no one to share the burden of caring for Serena. But now, Madelyn’s support, a glimmer of hope began to pierce through her previously bleak world. Melinda fell to her knees with a thud. Madelyn jumped up in alarm.

“What are you doing? Get up!”

“Ms. Garcia, thank you. I truly appreciate it. Meeting you has given me and Rena hope. Having you as Rena’s mother is truly a blessing.”

*Please get upl

Madelyn pulled Melinda to her feet. She admitted that her suggestion was partly out of pity for Serena.

However, it was also to relieve Melinda of the burden of repaying the money she had given her. Given Melinda’s current situation, it was unlikely she could ever repay it.

When Madelyn decided to help them, she never expected their repayment. Melinda was overwhelmed with gratitude. She struggled to find the words to express her thanks.

An hour later, Serena was wheeled out of the emergency room. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

“Dr. Gardner, how is my daughter?”

Melinda rushed forward, her voice trembling..

Nelson Gardner removed his mask.

“The child is out of immediate danger, but we need to find a suitable bone marrow match as soon as possible.”

“Please make sure you do everything possible to find one,” Madelyn said.

She stepped forward before Melinda could respond.

Nelson nodded respectfully when he saw Madelyn.

“Yes, Mrs. Miller.”

Serena was moved to a sterile ward. Melinda and Madelyn were both prohibited from entering. They were told that they couldn’t be in close contact with Serena for the following week.

Melinda and Madelyn stood outside the ward, looking through the window at the unconscious Serena.

Melinda couldn’t stop crying.

“She only feels at peace when she’s asleep.”

Madelyn looked at Serena’s pale face, feeling a sharp pang of sorrow.

When Madelyn finally left the hospital, it was around noon. She was about to get into her car when she saw Roger stepping out of his vehicle.

After years apart, he had grown into a handsome, composed man. His youthful immaturity was replaced by a calm demeanor.

Roger paused upon seeing Madelyn.

“Maddie?”

“Roger.”

Madelyn tried to hide the medicine she was holding behind her back.
