While there was no emotion in the Messenger messages Cordelia sent to Brenda and Tristi, she was
certainly in a foul mood.
She didn't want Ronan to know she had cried and gotten sick over him. After all, he seemed to care so
little about her and was already rolling in the hay with someone else barely a month after her departure.
If she cried over him, wouldn't that make her appear too emotionally invested, or too hung up on him?
Thankfully, she was overseas, and Ronan remained blissfully ignorant of her thoughts and feelings.

admiration.
Deanna, ever sarcastic and mocking, commented. [Oh, playing the female scholar, are we? Careful,
scholars make for old maids!]
The subtext of Deanna's comment was clear – Cordelia would have a hard time remarrying, let alone
getting back with Ronan.

From his office, Ronan observed the flood of comments with a cold gaze. Clearly, Cordelia's Facebook
post had garnered quite the attention and won over many. He didn't know if she had seen the news
about him and Tabitha.
If she did know and remained so aloof, it meant she truly didn't care about him and was only concerned
with her studies. Even if she had heard about the scandal, she probably wouldn't care. After all, a
woman so engrossed in her scholarly pursuits wouldn't have time for gossip, much less sordid affairs.
She was the epitome of a virtuous woman, keeping her ears closed to worldly matters, and her mind
focused on her books. No scandal of Ronan’s could shake her.
The difference between her and Ronan was glaringly clear.
