The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 378

Chapter 378

Cordelia was astounded when she saw Jamie’s comment, thinking to herself, “Jamie’s reputation as

Millstone’s top CPA is no fluke.”

She was about to reply to his comment when she saw Marian’s feedback.

Marian had specifically responded directly to Jamie with her comment, [Impressive, Mr. Colby.]

Jamie responded humbly with a “smiley” emoji.

[Since you’re so good, Mr. Colby, you must teach me,] Marian said.

[Sure,] Jamie replied.

Cordelia watched their lively chat with dwindling interest, not responding to either of them.

Although Cordelia had won the contention, the emotional damage she had suffered was significant,

often leaving her drained.

She was constantly worried about Callum. Even though Callum was young and oblivious, she was still

concerned that he would be affected by what had happened.

Three days after posting on Facebook, she ran into Petra while having lunch at the school cafeteria.

“Feeling better?” Petra casually brushed Cordelia’s forehead, making her feel strangely comforted.

“Much better,” Cordelia replied, sitting opposite Petra.

“Why did you suddenly get sick?” Petra asked. “You need to take care of yourself when you’re living

alone.”

Petra’s words made Cordelia feel warm inside, and she simply nodded in agreement.

“Excuse me, Petra?” A foreign male student stood beside their table.

“Yes?” Petra replied, looking at him in surprise.

“Is this your purse?” He handed a wallet to Petra. NôvelDrama.Org content.

Petra saw her lost wallet returned and was overjoyed. Her face was showing layers of gratitude as she

kept thanking him.

When Petra tried to reward him with some money, he politely declined and left.

Seeing Petra’s excitement, Cordelia commented, “You must be happy, huh?”

“Absolutely!” Petra’s face was flushed with joy. “Losing my ID was one thing, but the photos inside are

precious. I may never get them back.”

Petra said this, and didn’t have any intention of showing Cordelia the photos.

Cordelia understood that it was inappropriate.

Indeed, it was quite inappropriate.

Cordelia remained silent, wondering, “How handsome or attractive must the person in the photo be to

make Petra react like this?”

Cordelia thought about someone cherishing Ronan so much, and didn’t know whether she should feel

proud or jealous.

After lunch, Cordelia and Petra had a pleasant chat as they walked.

“Why did you decide to become a teacher after getting a Ph.D.?” Cordelia asked, puzzled.

Cordelia felt that Petra might’ve been intellectual, soft, yet resilient, unlike Deanna's arrogance and

superficiality. Petra had depth, and Cordelia kind of liked her.

"Is there anything wrong with being a teacher? It's about educating people. What about you? Why are

you pursuing a master's degree?"

This question left Cordelia stumped.

"Maybe I don't want to be humilated in front of others. My bachelor's degree is not impressive, and I

don't want to fall behind. I want to feel confident," Cordelia finally answered after some thought.

"Everyone has their own choices. Maybe this is your choice now, but it might change in the future.

People change, Cordelia. I'll probably only stay in the U.S. for another month, and our time together will

come to an end soon. We might never see each other again in this life, so keep it up!" Petra patted

Cordelia's shoulder and gave her a smile.

Seeing Petra's harmless smile, Cordelia felt a momentary daze. She found Petra surprisingly kind.

"Shall we add each other on Messenger?" Cordelia suggested.

"Sure." Petra took out her phone, and they added each other on Messenger.

But as Cordelia pulled out her phone, she saw a dozen messages from Adrian on Messenger, all voice

messages, as if something had happened. "Excuse me, could you wait a moment?" Cordelia said,

beginning to carefully check the messages.
