Chapter 931: Lonely Steps Forward
Luna entered the room, holding onto the stars.
Orion sat at the dining table, eating his meal.
It seemed as though he was relieved that Luna wouldn’t leave.
When Luna came in, he didn’t look up, as if he didn’t know she was there.
Luna pulled out a chair and sat across from him.
After hesitating for a moment, as Orion was about to finish his meal, she spoke up, “If you ever get married in the future, can I have the stars?”
Orion thought she would come to her senses, willing to be with him for the sake of the stars.
But he didn’t expect her to think like this!
He slowly raised his head.
Luna quickly explained, “I’m doing this for your own good. Having a child would be a burden for you, and I also have selfish reasons. I’m afraid a stepmother wouldn’t treat the stars well. You’re still young, you can still have children, but I can’t anymore. I know what I’m saying isn’t fair to you…”
“Don’t dream. I’ll never marry, and I’ll never give up the stars.”
He stood up and reached out, “Give me the stars.”Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Hesitating, Luna handed him the stars.
Orion carried the stars out of the living room.
He knew deep down.
If he had agreed, Luna could have left with the stars now.
Her heart was so stubborn.
Was his heart as clear as he thought?
Why wouldn’t she even consider it?
Not even a chance?
Would she not change her mind for the stars?
He nestled in the rocking chair with the stars.
Gently patting the stars’ back, “Your mother is so heartless, she doesn’t want me, yet she wants to take you away.”
Of course, the stars couldn’t understand.
Curled up in his arms, with her pale and delicate hands clutching his clothes.
Orion looked down at her, “When I hold you, it’s as if I’m holding her.”
He knew that now, the only thing Luna cared about was the child.
As long as the stars were by her side, Luna wouldn’t leave.
“Little star, you have to help Daddy. Let your mother change her mind so we can live happily together.”
…
After cleaning up the dining table, with Orion carrying the stars, Luna distanced herself from the stars.
She busied herself with tasks.
Avoiding contact with Orion, preventing an awkward situation.
Later, when the stars cried and Orion couldn’t calm her down, Luna avoided him.
He couldn’t approach her, with the stars crying, he used the stars as an excuse to get closer to Luna.
“Is she unwell?” he asked, “She’s not hungry or in need of a diaper change, why is she suddenly crying?”
Luna glanced at the clock and said, “She’s not hungry, just tired.”
She said, “Give me the stars, I’ll put her to sleep.”
Orion handed the stars over, and whether intentionally or unintentionally, their hands touched.
Luna instinctively recoiled.
She took the stars and said, “She needs quiet, I’ll take her to the room.”
Orion said, “I’ll watch how you soothe her and I won’t disturb her.”
Luna said, “…”
Orion added, “You’re right, I will get married in the future and it will be inconvenient for you to be here then. Taking care of the stars will be my responsibility. I need to learn to do it now.”
With him saying this, Luna had no choice but to agree.
She had to let him follow her back to the room.
She stood by the window, cradling the stars, gently rocking them.
Orion watched her.
The sunlight streamed in through the window, enveloping Luna, with the stars in her arms, tender and serene.
It was a beautiful sight.
Orion was entranced.
He wished time could freeze at this moment.
To stay like this forever…
But reality was different.
Luna put the sleeping stars down.
“Mr. Russo, the stars are asleep.”
Orion’s dream was shattered by the mention of Mr. Russo.
He stared at Luna.
Mr. Russo?
With such heartless words, she didn’t bat an eye or show any emotion.
Was there truly no lingering feelings?
Was she really sealing off her heart, refusing to feel anything?
He got up and left the room.
Luna took the opportunity to close the door.
She had a drink the night before and woke up early, feeling exhausted.
She took the chance to rest in the stars’ room for a while.
To be with the stars.
…
Luna slept deeply, almost until noon.
But the stars weren’t in the room.
She walked out and saw Orion in the living room with the stars.
She didn’t approach him but went straight to the kitchen.
Orion said, “Lunch will be delivered later, no need to cook.”
Luna stood far away and asked, “When did the stars wake up?”
“They woke up a while ago,” Orion answered.
Luna bit her lip, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“I thought you were sleeping soundly,” Orion said, adopting a businesslike tone. “You’re already working hard taking care of the stars, I’ll give you a raise.”
If their relationship hadn’t been revealed, Orion’s words would have been a simple reward for her hard work.
But now, knowing she was Luna, his words were clearly not just a kind gesture.
Luna calmly replied, “Alright.”
Orion felt like his punch hit a fluffy cushion.
She remained unaffected.
Orion found it dull.
Luna felt uncomfortable standing in the living room and went outside.
Orion followed with the stars in his arms.
“You don’t have to avoid me,” he said.
“I’m not avoiding you, I’m just enjoying the fresh air outside,” Luna replied.
Orion kissed his daughter’s cheek, “Even the stars like the fresh air outside.”
Luna looked at the baby in his arms.
The stars gazed innocently at the world.
Luna couldn’t help but smile.
Facing this innocent, pink little baby, it softened her heart inexplicably.
She wanted to give her all the beauty in the world.
But she was the most useless one.
She couldn’t even give her a complete family.
She averted her gaze.
A gentle breeze passed by.
Strands of hair fell on her forehead.
She tucked them behind her ear.
…
The food delivery arrived, and Luna brought it in. She arranged everything and then said, “Give me the stars, you go eat.”
Orion held onto the stars, not showing any intention of handing them over. “You go eat first.”
“I’m not hungry right now.”
“Neither am I.”
And so, they remained at an impasse.
…
After about an hour.
The food had gone cold.
Luna reheated it.
She said, “Let’s eat together.”
Orion agreed.
By this time, the stars were asleep.
Orion put the stars down, and he joined Luna at the dining table.
He asked, “Do you want a drink?”
Luna quickly shook her head.
She had a hard time that night.
He picked up the chopsticks, asking, “Are we going to continue being awkward like this?”
Luna kept her head down, slowly eating her meal.
“Maybe you should try…” he started to say.
Luna looked up, “Stop.”
He was forcing her.
Orion lost his appetite.
He put down his chopsticks.
And left the dining room.
He went back to his room and called Freya.
He was out of options.
He needed Freya’s help.
To persuade Luna.
The days ahead were long.
Did she really want to continue living so lonely, alone?
